Norinco M305 safety issue

I wonder something.

Take the trigger out with the hammer back and close the trigger guard. Depress the hammer with your thumb and operate the safety.

You will notice it operates as you most likely wish. Now take all pressure off the hammer and watch it very closely. You will notice when you operate the safety you must overcome the spring tension.

I wonder if this is explains why it seems so hard to operate when you attempt to engage the safety but so easy when you disengage the safety?
 
the safety SHOULD come off with " the flick of the trigger finger"as it's meant to under fire- you SHOULDN'T have to work on it- you should also be able to push the safety on with about the same pressure as you pull the trigger- it's a pity you guys don't have a garand or usgi m14s to compare to ,as that would be the standard- all you can do is work the safety on and off until you FEEL it's smooth

:agree: The Doc's done two of my previous M14 triggers and they were simply awesome! Highly recommended...just give him a couple days, so he can finish the third trigger group I just sent him :p

That's exactly it. I think the spring tension is too hard and dont know if and how that can be adjusted. TX for the advice guys, I think I will eventually send the whole thing to the DOC for a tune up, but, he is in BC and I am in QC so it can take a while I guess. Question, is there a gunsmith in QC that is experienced and qualified to work on M14's-305? Talked to a few but they generally are not interested.
 
After a further examination I am curious about this.

Is the safety designed to drop the hammer below the hooks or is it a case of incorrect angles. On a Springfield or Garand does the safety drop the hammer below the hooks?
 
yes, when applying the safety, the hammer should be pulled down at the rear, away from the sears and remain locked there. snapping the safety off, the hammer should rise and the front hooks then make full contact with the front sear.
 
I was looking around my workshop for something to turn into a jig strong enough to manipulate the M305's safety when I came across this cool multi-tool:

On the one I have the spacing of the handles when closed is just about perfect for working the safety back and forth. We'll see how it holds up to a few hundred cyclings of the safety.
 
The safety on my Norinco is almost impossible to engage. It would be easier for me to push Mean Joe Greene off the line off the line of scrimmage.

Ask Mean Joe to work it a few thousand times for ya. He will retire again:D
Seriously, there are some good ideas here especially about the spring relacement. Will try Marstar for parts, but they are usually out of stock with many items.:eek:
