Hey Guys,

Well this is my first official post in regards to my newly acquired Norinco m305 Shorty.

A little back story, I purchased this rifle (SFRC online) as well as some A1A mags (wolverine Supplies) and a Op Rod spring + guide kit (brownells) while working "out west" and had it delivered to my house in Nova Scotia. The shipping worked out perfectly and all the items arrived ahead of schedule. The wood stock + shorty combo was on sale and I just couldn't pass it up, though I still have second thoughts about getting the short barrel.

My friend and I went to the local range to test out my new toy as well as some of his rifles. At one point we decided to switch weapons, while I was firing his weapon I noticed in my peripherals that he was having feed troubles; firing on the range ceased and we attempted to fix this issue.

Under close inspection of the weapon, I noticed that there was some wear on the metal lips attached to the wood stock which I assume was to keep the Op Rod in place. The sliding pin which holds the op rod in place was moving to the open position allowing the op rod to slide toward the mag. When the op rod was in the untethered position the mag would not load. The untethered op rod would also cause the front end of the loaded mag to dip which resulted in miss feeding.

Is there any suggestions as to rectify this? I was thinking about bending one of the metal tabs to inhibit the pin from sliding to the open position during firing. Id hate to begin altering / bending metal if it is unnecessary.

I have taken some photos of the weapon and key components.

PS: I do understand that the A1A mags do not have the front hole and in turn will have wear

Those stocks are cut for a USGI pin rather than Norc one (the Norc is flush when closed, the USGI sticks out a little). What you need to do is the "popsicle stick mod", which is basically gluing a small shim (part of a popsicle stick is perfect) to the cut out area of the stock. The fifth picture down shows the cutout at the top of the picture (right hand side of the stock). Just glue the shim to the inside of that cutout to prevent the Norc pin from working it's way out. An alternate solution would be to order a USGI pin and replace the Norc one, but the popsicle stick mod is quicker and easier.

Here's a pic I found of someone's mod where they used a steel shim and epoxy instead of a popsicle stick, but it shows the basic concept and location:
