Norinco M311

Centerfire semi-automatics rifle (and shotgun) magazines are restricted to 5 rounds.

We know... its a shame...

...But it keeps Canadians safe, since no criminal will ever be able to get a hold of full capacity magazines...

Chinese semi-auto only copy of the M16A1. I think the threads are a metric pitch though. Those that have one seem to enjoy it as a fun and cheap plinker.

No, it's not legal to get a mag with a capacity over 5 rounds for a centrefire semi-auto rifle.
 
I have one and I like it. I would like it more if I could have a bigger magazine but that would cost me alot more in ammo.

My only complaint is that it has a1 rear sights on it and no brass deflector.
 
I higher capacity magazine may become available if Questar manages to get the 10rnd mags for the RRA .223 pistol imported. They are pistol mags but work in a rifle, they are legal, naysayers see Beretta Storm
 
what? isnt it the rifle that is restricted to 5 rounds because its a semi-centerfire? its not the actual mags that are restricted is it? it was my understanding that any semi center fire rifle had to be limited to 5 rounds.....otherwise couldn't we just all re-pin our mags to 10 rounds and say we have .223 pistols? if not that makes the Canadian firearms laws even more messed up.

no, the mag is the restricted item, not the rifle as far as capacity goes

and; no, the magazines have to be manufactured specificly for a pistol and so marked by the manufacturer, you can't do it yourself
 
The CQ311 is an awesome rifle for the price. The threads are metric so adding the whiz-bang gizmos is out of the question.

I've not heard of anyone breaking one yet, or having some malfunction that required a gunsmith. They are one of the better Norinco's out there and have a forged upper and lower (pretty sure).

Mine will shoot with my $1400 Stag. Albeit, the Stag is much ###ier with it's flawless finish.

Also, if you’re into the "old school" or "Israeli" look; they are very "Nam" era in design.

Go get yourself a steal helmet, with an Ace of Spades shoved in the liner band, and you can play "Platoon" or "Tour of Duty" at the range :p .

Screaming ... "they're in the wire!... They are in the wire! :eek: " and letting loose with your 5 round mag can be lots of fun (make sure your alone on the range, or maybe just scream it in your head) Also, if you've got a friend with an SKS you might be able to duplicate the sounds of a "Nam" fire fight pretty well. :rolleyes:

NOTE (in case you think I'm nuts): Have fun, but play responsably, thats what we own them for.

so these .223 pistol mags aren't made on Springfield/AR/M16 tooling? That was one of the loophole blockers wasn't it? Like with that Remington Pump .223.....
 
.223 mags

I just bought 3 9/5 shot mags on ebay they are competion mags.
Cost under $20. each, have the special follows on them.

I have a CQ311 and I really enjoy it. Only had it out a couple times, but it is a smooth fun shooter. The finish is garbage, so the first thing I did was sandblast mine and Armacoat it with a nice coat of black (instead of the brush painted on blue/grey enamel finish it originally had) and it looks great. I also have all Colt A2 furniture that I armacoated OD. I also replaced the Norc forward assist with a colt one, as well as my rear site assembly and mag catch. (Those were replaced not because they broke or are crappy, but because I lost parts in the process of stripping my reciever for refinishing and I figured I'd put good stuff on it instead of trying to find Norc stuff...)

I bought some better mags (30/5 because I'm not too fond of the Norc one), threw a rail onto the handguard and put my Tangodown grip on it, and I'm putting a compact ACOG on the carry handle. When all is said and done, I'll have my AR finished (with optics, cleaning kit, 4 mags etc...) for less then $1100. I'm pretty pleased with that :)
 
Ah, you don't need a review. There's plenty of posts on CGN already blessing the gun's economically viable replication of a high priced AR15.

Put it this way, you get what you pay for. But when it comes to recently imported Norincos, you get just a little more.

Best AR value on the market:

Rifle twist: 1 in 12
Barrel profile: A1
Sights: A1

Forward assist, forged lower and upper, magazine release raised gate (to discourage accidental mag releases). Also, the magazine well is oggered out for the all the thermold mags (not all ARs are). I've had zero malfunctions and it's as accurate as any AR I've shot (I also own a Stag).

The finish is crappy on the Norc and you can remove it with a finger nail being that it's just paint, but it works fine. The receiver will swap with all small pin uppers/ lowers.

I've not heard of one breaking, not working, or failing prematurely. They shoot well, and are reliable, out of the box - unlike my M14.

Mine likes everything I've fed it in 55-56 grain range.

The only downside is: metric threading, ugly furniture, and ugly finish.

I wouldn't pay more than $600 for one (personally) unless it’s got some optics. If you’re going to drop the $770 that some dealers are asking I’d spring the extra couple hundred and get myself a used AR on the EE (except that Colt AR hack job; with the carry handle and front sight ground off for $1300 – what the hell is that dude thinking?:confused: ) But I'm a sucker for pretty guns.

Maybe I'll do refinish mine one day in Colt grey and put on some retro A1 furniture - that would be Uber cool.
