Norinco M4 CQ5.56 Reliability - You Decide

I had an introduction to shooting range session for 20+ co-workers today.
In addition to the 30+ firearms at the range was my new Norinco M4.
It had exactly 84 rounds through it prior to today.

In a 5 hour period over 1000 rounds went through it with zero failures.
Used three magazines during the session: 2 factory 30 round pinned magazine and a RRA 10 round magazine.

Were using Fiocci factory ammunition exclusively.

Shooters were using the large factory aperture sight at a 200 yard 30" diameter gong. The dry weather combined with slight wind made spotting the rounds at 200 yards easy.

Most of the shooters had never fired a gun before (or very limited exposure in their youth) and were making 60% hits within a magazine or two from a bench with front rest.

After firing the SKS almost everyone commented on its light weight and how much fun it was to shoot.

I had another shooter bring their mini 14 as a backup and the universal choice of the shooters was the M4 over the mini 14. Their observations were simply on handling and did not include accuracy comparisions.

My worries about possible "failures" of this gun were unfounded. It ran without problems even though it got pretty hot during the session.

Cheers,

L

I've got 3000 rounds through mine. The only issue i had was at about a 1000 rounds my buffer retention pin came out and jammed in my trigger. But with it now removed It shoots and cycles like a dream.

Nice, some CGN'er here even duracoated his and it looks amazing, just as good as any other black gun costing 4-5 bills more.

1000 rounds down the pipe sounds like one hell of a day though, props for the introduction to so many non-shooters. :D

About 300rds on mine, shoots flawlessly. Also the trigger was a stiffer at first but found the more you shoot it, the more it loosened up & almost has that double trigger feel.

Worth the money.

Note: I did take the bolt apart & put a fine coat of oil on all the mving parts, just for the break in process to minimize wear.

Hey, lmar, its the guy with the little browning 22! Thanks again for letting my try out the shotguns :D

Anyhoo, what I meant to say :

There was also an S&W M&P15 there. It was a bit nicer, fit and finish, but I dunno about $700 nicer.....

Your welcome.

Good time was had by all from all accounts.

The M&P had a nice fit and finish but as you pointed out $700.00 buys a lot of practice ammo.

Well done getting the co-workers out!! Good on ya! :D

About the M4 by Norinco-Plinko....

Don't buy ONE, Buy TWO of them!!

Many of you knew that was coming!!

Maybe that's where the extra $700 goes; my Stag shot 3/4" at 100y with 'cheap' ammo.

Maybe when I can reliably shoot 3/4 at 100 it'll be worth it to me to have a rifle that can, 'till then, I'll use the extra money on ammo to get me there. The spec on this rifle (US Mil-C-71186) is 5 inches at 100 yards, with better ammo than I'm using.

You kick a$$ for getting new shooters out shooting. And with ev1l black guns.

It is work like this that might keep the hobby around for another 5 years.

:agree: About 300 rounds thru mine so far and no issues. Very happy with the purchase and great service from the guys at Lever. (I'm still in for a T97 though). :dancingbanana:

Cheers

All you guys out there; DO THE 15 MINUTE TRIGGER JOB AS POSTED ELSEWHERE IN THE FORUM!!!

Just did my Norc, following the instructions posted. The trigger is no silky smooth with a beautiful break and a much lighter squeeze.:)

I would agree, it does 'work as advertised', however, you are getting less power to the hammer, and could cause light primer strikes on milspec (harder) primers.

Never had an issue with mine though (CQ-311), but it's something to keep in mind.
