Hey everyone,

used the search function and looked over as many threads as possible regarding what type of handguards are compatible with the Norinco M4

However i did not seem to come across any regarding the following handgaurd
Daniel Defense EZ Car 7.0 (link from One Shot tactical):
http://www.oneshottactical.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=oneshot&Product_Code=DD-5010&Category_Code=RLS

I love the look/idea of the top rail extending and connecting up to the rail on the receiver giving a continous top rail.

What i am not sure about is the following

1) does anyone know if this type of handguard is compatible with the norinco M4? Better yet, does anyone here have one installed on their Norinco

2) In order to install this handguard (if it is in fact compatiable) what else would be needed (extra parts)

thanks in advance my fellow gun nutz!

I had a Midwest free float rail on my Norc, you have to do the following:
Check Clear

Seperate upper and lower.
Remove handguards
Cut Delta Ring assembly off with a dremel (be gentle, excercise caution and don't do it in your reloading room - sparks)
Assemble handguard onto the rifle per the instructions
(one tip, you can use the carry handle or a pic rail accesory to make sure the rail is properly aligned - I used an Armalite scope mount)

20-30 minutes tops. It's almost like instant Tacti-Cool.

The continuous rail does give you more options for placement of optics, it seems to me if you don't have a continuous rail the glass is either too close or too far.

I have an M4 and added a Fab Defense NFR rail from Wolverine supplies and it seems to be a very close match to the Daniel Defense. The NFR is also a drop in replacement that extends to meet the top rail but unfortunately it was not drop in. The front handguard cap that holds the handguards in was out of spec. so a simply had a local smith replace the front handguard cap and after that it fit fine. I can't tell you if all Norinco M4s have this problem but I'm pretty sure they due as their handguards are also a little big. Hope this helps.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, please pay attention to the OP before me. I got norinco m4 and i'm wanting to get new handgaurds, something i can mount a grip with, maybe a light too. Any suggestions? I'm new and i'd appreciate any help. I'm looking for anything competitively priced any mana.

umm yeah...
you totally hijacked the thread!!!

There are lots of different threads about different quad rails/handguards. Lots on different types of quadrails and quite a few with the Magpul MOE handguard (and most have pics as well as reviews of the set up). Do like i did and use the search function! Trust me you will find a ton of info!

I am asking about a specific handguard (as linked to above) and if particular handguard is compatible with the Norinco M4

So with that in mind...
back to the topic at hand!

The Delta Ring is the device that holds the factory handguards on.

and that is a Norc Upper on an Armalite Lower.

I just checked the rail you're referring to - it's even easier, and the first continuous top rail I've seen on a non-float rail. Under normal circumstances these rails drop in to replace the handguards. This can be an issue with Norc M4's, the length of the handguards can be out of spec. You need to measure the distance between the inside of the Delta ring and the front handguard cap (measure carefully). Then find out the diameter of the front handguard cap on both your rifle and the rail. If they don't match you'll have to convince them to with a dremel. Frankly if the lenght is out the free float is easier.

Thanks. I tried the search but was having a hard time. Maybe I need to broaden my search.

Cheers

The default search on this site has been set at 1 week for some reason.
Unfortunately you must go in and change that every time.

I purchased the YHM Diamond series handguard in Specter length which means that the front sight must be removed and replaced with a low profile gas block.

To do the job properly you need an armorers wrench and a bench block to hold the upper receiver.

i got it now, thanks for letting me kno. I was banging my head against the wall wondering why the search was giving me stuff from this week only.

O put the 7.0 rail on my norc. You are going to need a set of punches and a block to remove the gasblack/sight, an armorers tool to remove the delta ring and barrel nut, you are going to need a receiver block to hold the upper in a vice too. Then you are going to need a low profile gas block so you can slide the hand-guard over the block a barrel. I will try to put a pic of my finished work up tonight so you can see. Its a great hand-guard, but there are others that are great too that you can put on with just taking the factory hand-guard off and sliding a new one on. Oh yeah the Daniel defense barrel nut is a special nut too. It requires a special wrench if you dont already have one.

thanks man!
that helped a lot!

No worries man
i had the same sort of thing happen to me when i 1st used the search function. Hell, it still happens from time to time! haha

Cool,
thanks for the info!
Looking forward to those pics

re: other handguard
any that you are aware of that will give the continous top rail?

can you post some pics of your finished rifle?

Almost any Free Float rail will fit hte Norinco, and most drop-ins will also fit IF you change out the handguard end-cap to a proper in-spec one.

More importantly though, the Norinco is a $700 AR and if you are going to add a $200+ rail system to the rifle, why would you not instead get a better AR?

Let me put it to you this way.

Aero Precision lower: $145
Aero Precision upper: $115
LPK & UPK: $120 Brownells
Buffer assembly: $45 Armseast
Stag full-auto bolt: $175
sj hardware barrel: $220
Low profile gas block and gas tube: $50
Buttstock: $30 or so in the EE?

That's only $960, or $260 more than a Norinco and you get an all north-american made AR, everything except the free float handguard - which will run you about another $200 taxes in if you order a decent YHM diamond series HG from fabsports - a tad more if you get a YHM tube end-cap from Brownells for aesthetics.

Or if you want the M4 fixe front sight look, get a $330 complete chrome lined M4 barrrel assembly from ATRS instead of the S&J hardware barrel.
