Hi I am looking to mod up my Norinco M4, I am thinking on replacing the front sight with a modular gas block from Brownells with bayonet lug, also replacing the handguard(maybe NC star) any tips or suggestions for a budget friendly CGNer.

It would cost less to cut the front sight off the gas block, reshape it (carefully) and refinish it, then use a longer rail to cover the gas block - some of the Norc FSB's are on there in such a way that removing them is a major PITA. I've seen pics of a couple of AR's done this way and it seems to be very effective. Then you just mount your BUIS on the rail.

Nice work, I watched a youtube video today on reshaping the front sight. I would like to keep the front sight as a future option though, what kind of handguard do you have? how was it to install?

It's just a regular length NC Star quad rail. nothing special, but pretty decent quality for the price. I wasn't expecting much out of a chinese rail, but I was pleasently surprised.

Yup that's what Im going for, that looks fantastic. What type of handguard did you put in it?

mine is a yankee hill machine diamond spectre length. it covers the gas block by just under an inch.
All I want to do is test it with a good scope, and put on a decent brake. eventually ill get magpul ctr and miad grip....the ergo is too skinny for me.

I had a yhm diamond but it's pretty heavy. Im now running a rifle length Samson and really like it. If I were to do it again I'd cut down the gas block, cut off the delta ring and install a Samson. Very well priced for what you get. Should take less then an hour with simPle tools.
