Norinco M93 reassembly issue HELP!

I have an old Norinco M93 .22 pistol, it's never been super reliable(mostly FTF), but it was cheap. I decided to do a proper cleaning on it, and boy are they a pain. So after much youtubing and frustration, I have it all back together, but the recoil spring won't enage when I snap the backstrap on. The spring is captive, held by the little spring steel doodad that is depressed by the dissasembly button on the slide. Is'nt it upposed to free itself when I put the backstrap on? What am I doing wrong?

By the way, my M93 is the most reliable pistol. I shoot mostly Federal Value Pack, AR Tactical and Mini Mag.
 
Thanks, but I figured it out. My doodad was bent!
The recoil spring and guide rod had gotten free and actually went under the flat spring retaining doodad during dissassembly. The dissassembly button on the slide fell out, so I had to pull up on the flat spring doodad to get the dissasembly button back in.
The bending of the flat spring made it not want to release the recoil spring guide and spring. I took out the retaining flat spring doodad and flattened it out a bit, re-assembled and everything worked as it should. A stressful afternoon, but I learned a lot about the internals of an M93! I hope this makes sense.

Yes, I agree. Shortly after buying the M93 a few years ago, I had a misfortune of releasing a recoil spring free from its compressed position. It was a nightmare to get it back. It's loooooong! Now, I'm extremely careful when I disassemble it.
Otherwise, I love that little pistol. I have a Large size hand but the grip fits me surprisingly well. Trigger is not bad at all. The bluing is second to none on mine. Full steel, no plastic. Very accurate at 20-25 yards. I routinely score 90-95% at 20 yard target without special efforts on my side using Federal, Mini Mag or similar ammo.

The are a couple youtube videos that will show you how to do it, without wrecking the recoil spring.

THE M93 pistol, is a design that closely follows early Colt Woodsman specs.
Some parts are actually interchangeable.
A friend's M93 recoil spring guide was accidentally launched into space.
I replaced it with pre war Woodsman recoil guide from Numrich, perfect fit.

Fit function and finish on my examples is very good.
Accuracy is good, feeds anf fires whatever I put into the mags.
I will look for a few more to put aside, for GreatGrandkids.
 
They were a fantastic deal when they went for $150 each. I bought two at that price, only issue was one magazine didn't fit in both guns. I ended up selling them for whatever reason. Looks like they are significantly more these days.
 
Does anyone have parts for the m-93? I need a firing pin and spring. Does anyone know if the pre-woodsman firing pin and spring will work in the Norinco?
