Norinco M93 slide stop / lock operation

Just started using a Norinco M93 22.
I've got a question regarding the slide stop.
The slide always locks open after the last round, which is good.

Problem is, I can rarely get the slide to lock open with the slide stop if the mag is out.

Am i supposed to be able to lock the slide open without a mag in?

The slide lock is activated by the follower in the mag . When the mag is empty, the follower is able to push up the slide stop .
When the mag is out, this cannot happen so you need to push the slide stop up by hand.
 
You should be able to just hold the slide all the way back & push up on the slide stop at the same time & lock it open. It should be easy to do 100% of the time.

I had one some years ago & the slide stop lever on mine was fairly soft metal & had bent out of shape a bit and was not working 100%. I tokk the gun apart, bent the slide stop back to it's proper shape & fixed it.
 
Thank you. It's good to know that it should do it easily, all the time.

I just took a closer look at it.
It seems that when I have an empty mag in it, the slide goes back
about 3/16" farther than when the mag is removed.

It's the slide not going back quite far enough without the mag in it that is preventing the lever from going up and catching the slide.

I don't think it's the slide stop lever in this case but something else.

Similar difficulty with mine, but the magazine doesn't affect slide travel. It is only due to the fact that it's difficult to hit the slide stop, and we're not used to activating slide stops on the right side of the frame. The cut of the grip interferes with activating the lever. You could relieve a small portion of the grip, but the shape of the lever would make it fairly prone to snagging.

Or you could remove the external portion of the slide stop to make it more like the pre-war Woodsman :D

I thought it might be the grips but it functions the same with the grips removed.
The slide for some reason doesn't go back quite far enough with the mag removed.
 
Hey guys, you're both on the right track. I wasn't.
The problem is definitely with the Slide Stop.
It's binding somehow when I use my thumb.

Any pressure towards the slide and it will not go up high enough.
If I pull it slightly to the right, away from the slide it doesn't bind.
That's awkward as I have to catch the pointy part with my thumb.

I'll play with it and try and get it working better.
Hopefully it's soft enough to bend a bit.

First I'll go get some spare machine screws and a magnifying lamp.
