Most of you, with the norinco's out there will have the same problem with the stock magazine clip hanging up on the mag release.

I just got my 1911A1 from a fellow nut.
Same problem!
Then I tried my sigsauer magazine. No problem! Interesting. I tried the norinco clip in the sig, same problem.
I held both magazine next to each other, to find out what the difference is. On the norinco magazine, you will eventually see the drag marks of the magazine catch nose, right at the transition from the front radius, to the side of the clip. Slam it in the gun a few times. Then you will see.

On my sig magazine, right there at the corner, the clip is bent slightly inward toward the front tip of the follower, creating a slight bevel, for the magazine catch to ride over.
Now use a flat nose pliers not needle nose, you want the sheet metal to bend, not the pliers. Hold the pliers in line with the clip. With the corner of the pliers, grab the front edge of the magazine where the drag mark is, up to an 1/8 of an inch down. The side edge of the pliers, should be about a 1/16 of an inch past the drag mark, towards the back of the magazine.
Hold on tight to the pliers, so you don't slip off the edge of the clip. Very carefully, bend the metal towards the follower.
You only need to bring in that top edge of the corner about 1/32 of an inch or less. Do it a very little at a time. Try the clip in the gun. A very small bevel is all that's needed to push the catch out of the way, as you insert the clip in the gun.

I hope these instructions make sense. I'm a do'er, not a teacher.
If my English seams funny, I'm from across the big swim. So get used to it. ;-)

Have fun at the range!

Or alternatively, remove mag catch, bevel the bottom edge of it so ANY mag will slide in easy. You can also remove a coil or 2 of the mag catch spring if its too stiff.

I have Chip McCormick mags that also get stopped during insertion in my Norc. The advice posted by Hitzy makes more sense, though I will confess I have not done anything so far to cure the same issue. I am planning to go through with a makeover of my Norc and will take care of the issue then.

Personally I would chuck any Norinco mags that gave the slightest twitch anyway...I have had several blow the tacks on the floorplate when hitting concrete and feeding is mediocre IME.

Check the gun with good mags...if it works smoothly, carry on. If not, address the mag catch.

But this is definitely good information to have just from a troubleshooting perspective; if the current Norinco mags are being built incorrectly, it should serve as a clue to anyone who has issues on mag insertion. They should definitely get some quality mags (Wilson, CMC or Tripp are the best bets, Metalform and ACT somewhere further down the list) and see if the problem persists.
