Norinco models, any real differenc between models (government, sport, police)

I read a lot more positive reviews for the norcs then sam models. R1 is nice but i havent seen any used, they were on sale new for 600 a month before i got my restricted license at a local store.. Too bad I missed it.

For 50$ more im liking the look of the sam from wolverine, ill look into it. thanks for letting me know about it.

You will not regret the SAM. While I am sure some Norinco's are acceptable out of the box, a great many are not. Mine was not, and 3 friends were not, but they had experience and were able to do the work themselves. I did not, so I unloaded mine, and bought a SAM. Liked it so much, I bought a second. I agree, a Norinco must be considered a possible work in progress.

If you're shooting 45acp and not reloading then why are you going cheap on the gun when ammo is going to cost you a mint?

Minimum I'd say one of the SAM enhanced models is the way to go. Epps sells them too, BTW.

For a GI type gun you can find a used Remington R1 for about $600 too

I know of reloading but what would all the equipment cost for reloading..? On 45acp how much will I save for lets say 1000 rounds.?

What models did you get?

I own the sport model and two of the unmarked "cancelled military contract" norcs. The sport model has a way better trigger and fit/finish compared to the unmarked pistols.

I believe the sport and police models are the same.

ive got 3 norc's and 1 same.
if i had to recommend a 1911 to someone who just wants to get one to join the club and try them out..... id say spend the extra $50 and get the SAM.
norcs out of the box are gonna need some work.
either your gonna have to fix something and do a lot of deburring or your gonna have to pay someone to do it for ya.
same out of the box needs nothing.

after that your going up in price so you better be sure you like/love the 1911 platform.
there is no sense in spending $600 and up on a gun you dont love.
400 +/- is fine to drop but after that i better love the gun if im dropping that much on it.
me, i ended up liking the 1911's a lot so i ended up picking up a couple SR1911's and a Kimber and a couple others.

if you looking for a budget gun ill second (or fourth) what was said up above, the Norc NP-22 is a fantastic gun for the price!
$350 for a sig knock off.
fit and finish is great too, nothing like the norc 1911's and the chainsaws the use to cut the with.

as for your original question, ive got the Norc M-1911A1 and a pair of the M-1911A1TT's and there is no difference other then the color, exact same gun.
if you require it ill take a couple pics of them and post them for ya so you can see them side by side.
actually i might have some pics already up on my online album, sec ill go check.

yup, had some up already.

that is the two tone one from about 7 years ago and the gov't one is from Canadaammo's gun+ammo deal

Thanks guys, being I have zero experience modding/working on pistols I think I am probably going to go more along the route of a SAM or a remington R1, I've shot the R1 and really liked it.. I'll just wait a bit longer and buy a more quality out of the box gun. Thanks to everyone who answered, when I decide on what I'm getting and have the money saved I'll be sure to post on the thread and let you all know what I got and how it went. I'm also going to try and handle an NP-22, maybe I'll get that for now (and get some well needed practice) and wait a year for a 45acp 1911.

Thanks again all, being new to this forum I appreciate it a lot and am happy I joined.

for 499 i couldnt pass up that SAM tactical commander.
really like that gun!

my dad picked up one as well and he also picked up one of those uber small ones... SAM Titan(?) i think it was, both are great guns.
i havnt had a chance to play with a full length one yet but im assuming they are the same.

next year once youve decided to try some of the 1911 Cool-Aid and if your still leaning towards a Remmy R1 - if i can make a suggestion for ya, call Joe Brooks out of SK and ask them when they are gonna put their Remmy's on sale again, cause they had them on sale last fall and they where selling R1 Enhanced for the price of the regular R1's, and the regular R1's where the price of a SAM.

so if you can hit them right you can get twice the gun for the price of the regular one, the R1 Enhanced is much nicer then the R1.
Adjustable Rear Sight

On the Norinco model 1911's....

Of all the Norc models, for the full sized "government" style.... I prefer the plain Jane, "unmarked" 1911A1.

Can dress 'em up any way you like. Here's mine, degreased, with new grips & a stock Colt factory trigger from a series 70:

Picked up 'used' off the EE. IMHO, good way to break into the 1911 world without breaking the bank. I'm only into this one for ~ $300.....
