Hey Guys,

My first and current shotgun is a Maverick 88 (Mossberg) I picked up from Cdn Tire about 18 years ago just for fun and plinking (including skeet). It certainly doesn't have any bells or whistles but for the money it has stood up very well to the pounding its taken over the years!
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Norinco 870, its a lot cheaper then the real thing but then again more expensive then the Maverick. I have rifles and pistols (and other hobbies) so I don't go after the more expensive guns if I can get a cheaper alternative but still get some quality for the price thats what I'll do. Its a balancing act and as we all know, the general rule is you do get what you pay for.:shotgun:

The HP9 are great guns for the money.They are also interchangeable with Remington 870.Another option is the Grizzly 870 that Can Am is selling.It has a 12.5 barel and are basicaly the same as the Norc ones.Check Can Am out he is a contributing sponsor:)

CanAm is sold out on Grizzlies....I believe Frontier is selling some for a bit more money.

CanAm's Grizzlies are some of the best deals out there. The Norinco HP9-1 was beforehand but the Grizzly is cheaper, comes with a pistol grip and a stock and also comes with swivels. By all accounts, the Norinco and Grizzly are the same for fit and finish. Norinco owners shouldn't be pissed but if one is a new buyer today......

CanAm will be bringing in other variations and offering barrels later.
 
I'm so glad that CanAm can bring in all sorts of goodies for the 870 addiction. Makes all the bling projects lots of fun for any future or past "Bear Defense Shottie Threads". :nest:

I found this page the other day ww w.demalservices.com the webage shows 5 grizzly's in stock for $300 including taxes

I was going to grab a couple but i have to put the funds to other things right now
 
I was reading the other thread which basically says putting a pistol grip on the grizz is a big no-no! Thats sooo depressing...
Thats the route I want to go so I'm looking at the Nork again. FYI CanAm is getting more Grizz's in May.

Plan on using it for a bit of everything; skeet, some bird hunting, home defense (to the extent allowable by storing restrictions). My question is on barrel length. How are the very short Norinco and CanAm barrels for skeet and birds? What kind of range can I expect? Considering my needs for an all-around gun should I go for a longer barrel? Any advice is appreciated.

I've yet to shoot anything feathered/furry with my Grizzly 12.5", however I've shot nine rounds of skeet with it so far. If I do my part it's capable of hitting any skeet target. Shot a 23 & 24 yesterday afternoon at the skeet club, which is about what I can expect to do with any open choke 12 gauge. Should be usable for upland hunting within the choke limitations - I understand that the next batch of CanadaAmmo Grizzly shotguns will be available with screw in chokes. There is a slight velocity loss compared to long barrel guns (approx 7 to 10% reduction) so pass up those longer shots and you should be ok.

If I were you I would wait for the Grizzly with the choke tubes, and while I was waiting I'd track down a Remington Express barrel (they will fit the Grizzly with a little bit of work). That way you'll have the option of long or short as you see fit.

I've tried a couple of 870 express barrels on mine, both were tight at the barrel "hood" (the rear locking portion of the barrel that enters the receiver). They are really close to fitting and I've heard that on some guns they will fit as is.
I've tried the Grizzly barrel on my 870 and it fit without problem. I expect a bit of polishing with fine emery cloth to the barrel hood would do it.

Is the barrel off-center? Someone wrote that the grizz barrel was not perfectly aligned when put on a remington receiver

What's your budget??

I just brought home a new Rem 870 express 18" for $349.
Same price as the 14" knockoffs! :dancingbanana: I actually would advise you to take a look at this shotgun as it is very versatile. I see it filling pretty much any hunting or zombie scenario. :cheers:

I remember reading in the grizzly thread "believe it was nines thread" that the real remington barrels wont line up well in the norinco grizzly receiver, or maybe it was the other way around.

It looked to me to be slightly too large as opposed to being off center, at least with my Grizzly and two different Express 870 barrels that were tried on it.

It lines up fine, it's too tight. The test barrel was a 870MM barrel, I'm sure it will fit, but I'm not about to force a nickel plated barrel into a steel receiver. Vice versa, the griz barrel fits just fine into the 870MM receiver.

The Grizzly seems to be much smoother cycling than the HP9-1 I previously had. Possibly from the same factory. Irregardless, I find it better made. Canadian Ammo is awesome to deal with as well. I'd wait until they renew stock and jump on the bandwagon! :dancingbanana:
