Hi CGN peoples, got a question for you NP 29 owners, I just purchased one and i'm having issues with it, when I fire a round it fails to eject, I mean it locks up tighter then a drum, the slide moves back maybe 1/4 of a inch and jams completely, the only way to get the empty case out is to take a mallet n tap the slide back into battery, Has any other NP29 owner experienced this problem? and if so, what did you do to fix it

So far i've changed out the extractor, polished burrs of the slide and barrel and even tried swapping out the long guide rod for a shorter one from my norinco 1911 45 , but nothing has fixed the problem, If ANYONE has any suggestions, please share

If your going to say....well its a norinco what do you expect...keep that comment to yourself , i'm looking for help, not BS smart ass answers

Thanks Peoples

Lee

figured out how to upload a pic

Does it happen every round? What ammo are you using? what do the empty cases look like? Pics would help.

sorry I never took any pics, the empty cases look fine, no dents or dings, I've tried wolf reloads 124 gn, winchester factory loads 124 gn and american eagle factory loads 115 gn, all with the same results, gun jams solid , barrel moved out of battery about 1/4 inch

There was one talked about (1-2 years ago)
At the time it was determined that the barrel was fitted wrong (and a new barrel was needed) barrel was rotating and jaming

not necessary what you need

look for marks
look at the barrel bottom lugs / how they were cut and the barrel link (too long-or too short)

Im not sure i fully understand whats going on. Can you get specific about each step after you pull the trigger? That or post pics. Sorry, i"m visual.

when you pull the trigger, it goes bang, as the empty case starts to eject, everything jams up with about 1/4 inch of brass showing out of the barrel chamber, at this time the slide will not move at all unless you bang on it with a mallet so the barrel goes back into battery

My 45 does this as well, I am using the norinco ammo and eight round Dlask magazines. I changed the slide stop but it still jams. going to try different mags when I have the time.

Try Rodger at DARK international. He is a great gunsmith with lots of Norinco Experience. he did a trigger, hammer and sear on my NP30 and it runs like a top.

I just got a e-mail from a friend that says some people he found online with the same problem are saying its a stretched barrel link , I guess I will order a new one and try replacing it and see if that helps, Snoopycda, maybe you should try doing the same thing bud :)

I will definately look into it,thank you!

What I see is the extractor hook jammed against the case rim.
The hook should be in front of the case rim.
I would make sure that the correct 9mm extractor is indeed installed, and properly fitted.

Cheers Eh!

Good catch. I read something earlier about Norinco 9mm extractors simply being modified .45 extractors, and thus not really the best for the task. Try and buy a new and quality 9mm specific extractor and see if that improves things.

This pic is one i did this morning , it wasn't a actual jam, i am holding it in that position to show where it is jamming, I have swapped out the extractor from another np29 that was working perfectly and had the same results, that being said, I have also ordered a new Ed Brown extractor from Brownells, and a new barrel link, I will swap out both when they arrive and see if that improves things.

Thanks for the responses tho Guys, appreciate the feed back

Cheers

FWIW.
Simply swapping out, may or may not work.
Extractors are fitted to the slide by adjusting spring tension of the extractor itself.
Sometimes you can drop one and it works right off the bat.
Barrel links are also fitted to the gun.

No harm in trying Eh!

It's not so much that the links are fitted to the gun but rather that they come in three or four different lengths. The "size" of the link being the hole to hole measurement.

There's some ways to test for the proper fit and from the results of such a test the person picks the next longer or next shorter link and tries the test again. I don't have the method at hand but the 1911 style pistol is so popular I'm sure that "1911 barrel link fitting" or similar will get you a lot of good results.

I had the same problem with mine a few years ago. Never did get it figured out. "mabey you have my old gun LOL" I really liked the gun, but just couldn't get it to function properly. Spent way more money and time and effort than it was worth. Bought a CZ and never looked back. Hope you have better luck with yours.

I've had the same problem happen twice to me. First time, it was after firing about 400 rounds of reloaded ammo before it jammed up. I brought it to a gun smith and he got the slide to open up and got the empty casing out. The second time, it was the first shot at the range with the same reloaded ammo. I had to place the slide against the bench rest and ram my hand hard against the gun to get it to open up. I have yet to fire it at the range since then. I'm leaning towards blaming the reloaded ammo.

just like mine. thousand rounds then bang, this issue ..barrel and slide ruined. totally.. Below could be one problem. There may be other problems with my own Norinco 45..

Armco-guns.com quote..

BTW, we have come across at least one Norc 1911 loose enough that on firing it was letting the slide back half the length of the case - riding over the top of the barrel hood without linking down. A blow-back 45! It was jamming there every shot otherwise it would have kept on. This is a case blow-out waiting to happen - maybe something to consider ..It did ruin both the barrel and slide...
