Norinco NP-34

I've had the NP34 for about 8 months now and like it a lot, It is as accurate as I am capable of acheiving with any pistol and it packs a lot of firepower into a small cheap package. It's also nice to have a good gun that you dont have to worry about abusing or losing.

Here is some insider info, don't let anybody else know please:

On the Chinese firearm industry magazine "SMALL ARMS" 2006 July issue, there was an artical about NP34 crack thing. Obviously Norinco knew the problem as early as 2001~2002, then in 2005, modification was made on the gun - don't ask me details since I don't own one so I can't point it out. After that, the gun was brought to range and shot out. It passed 15,000 round test - it's life expectation is 10,000 rounds.

Does anyone have a current model (2005 or newer) with anywhere near that many rounds though it?

seems they reinforced the end of the rail to fix the problem.

Well, I've already ordered an NP-34 so I'll give you my report as soon as I get it. Honestly, I'm excited, it's really cheap and all I want is a compact 9mm to have some fun with. I already have some serious firearms G22, G23, PT92, and thinking about picking up a few other pistols. I'm going to the range today with my father in law as all of his paperwork for the SiG 229 is done!!

Just don't expect anything from Marstar soon. I ordered some items a month ago and they were in stock at that time. I haven't even been billed for them yet. There is a good chance they will tell you that they are waiting on the CFC but if you call the CFC they said they did it a couple weeks ago. Well this time I haven't checked with the CFC but last time that was the case. I also read on here of other people having similar circumstances. Reminds me of a guy who worked at the beetle shop in Calgary who would tell you his computer was down and would have to call you back. When I went to the store he was telling people on the phone that too, but then used the computer to serve me. Go figure I have some doubts about what they are telling me.

It should be noted that the Norinco Sig copies are based on the original Sig P22x designs using the stamped slide and old style spring assemblies rather than the North American Sigarms stainless machined slide and new SigSauer spring designs.

The NP22 and NP34 models I looked at had decent, crisp single action pulls...don't bother with the DA pull...

Still...I'll never regret being a 'real' Sig owner. I do like Norinco products however....I am a fan of the Norinco 1911s afterall...along with HP9-1s, M14s, etc etc

Buy one and shoot 10,000 rounds. Let us know the results:jerkit:!

Since I have a fair number of pistols already, it would take me a while to put 10,000 rds through it and likely have it for at least 5-10yrs.

I had a NP-22 crack on me after 2,000 rds, I also have the NZ-85b, M93, SKS, M305 and their 1911C so far I have been happy with their quality for the money I have paid. The fact that they seemed to have tried to fix the problems makes me interested again. Had I seen this prior to buying the 229, I might have gone for a NP-34. I have also noticed that newer NP-34's are much better made than the earlier ones I have seen. Norinco is improving, are they able to make a long term alloy frame? That is a good question.

got mine a couple of weeks back, I haven't fired it yet, but it seems much better then my first one I bought a few years back. First thing I did was slap on a P228 slide I bought in the states and a pair of Sig P228 grips. All of it fit perfectly, see pics below.

NP-34;
Why are you worried, if purchased at Marstar it has our no BS warranty....
John

I'm not worried about it being a "dud" or a "lemon". What I was curious about is how a firearm SO cheap performs. If it's acurate, comfortable, good materials. I don't expect to open the box and get a SiG, I just want to know more about the fine details that make you feel great in owning it.

Thanks to everybody thats thrown in their .02 and shared their experiences. I can't wait to share mine once I get it in the mail!!

The cost of a firearm does not directly related to its performance, mostly depending on where it was made. You're buying a walmart grade usable bang on the buck product, so it's shootable and reasonably accurate. But if you put Np34 beside a real sig, you still can tell it's a cheap gun. If you like a 9 mil and don't want to pay too much, this is the gun you HAVE TO buy!

BTW, Marstar's customer service has improved a great deal. Good job!

Lever Arms has them on sale for $299 at the moment. Marstar's reputation for warrantee service is better than Lever's.

Sorry to resurect an old thread but does anyone have a range review or some new pics of an NP34? Are the ones currently at Marstar the newer versions with the improvements?

The ones at Marstar are the new ones with improvements, I was really impressed with mine but at the time was very short in cash and had to sell it in order to fund police college.

Here are some pics of mine:

PLEASE NOTE: The slide is a 228 Sig slide and I added Hogue rubber grips. The reason I put on the Sig 228 slide was simply because it looked cool. Otherwise, the Norinco slide worked flawlessly. p.s. I found that Norinco magazines worked better/more reliable than the Mec-Gar's I purchased from Marstar.

Yes, they wouldn't feed properly. It seemed to be one out of every three Mec-Gars wouldn't feed properly. Norinco mags worked 100% and honestly, felt better, also they're cheaper.

Also note, I seem to be in the minority of people with a negative opinon about Mec-Gar mags. The ones I had for my Taurus also gave me problems.

I actually made a video of some of the issues I was having with the Mec-Gar mags and snap caps for posterity. The feeding issue was weird because it wouldn't happen on the first round from the mag but the second, third or forth. It would happen everytime but sometimes I could get through half a mag, other times it would happen after the first round.

Goodluck, I enjoyed the Norinco and if I was on a budget, I'd grab one again,
Tim.
