so i love my 229R, and im thinking i should get a second 9mm for when i take people out to shoot and to lend them when im trying to get them to compete with me. im curious, anyone have a review on these? preferably someone who has shot both the real sig and the norc, or even better, owns them? pics side by side ect also appreciated.

yes i know i could get a referb 226 for 500 more, but im a student, and i want the smaller grip of the 229 so it is more female compatible.

I really like Norinco, but have you considered the M&P? the grip is interchangable and at $599 it's a lot of gun for the price. If it is beyond your budget, the NP-34 will do fine for the use you intend, or consider a 9mm Nork 1911, the trigger will be easier for newbies to shoot with.

9mm 1911 is also a thought but i want one of those for myself as well so it wont end up being the budget gun i dont worry about new people breaking/dropping/damaging

I too decided that I have been thinking about the NP-34 and looking at the Marstar website for way too long, and it was time to just buy it and decide for myself if they are any good or not.

And the Norc 9mm 1911s don't seem to have come in for a while... what about the Tokarev in 9mm from Marstar?

tok isnt really ideal for a competition pistol, im going to pick one up anyways for fun, but not in 9mm

SIG vs NP

My brother has an NP34; I've enjoyed shooting it as much as the Sig-226 I tried. Trigger isn't bad; fit and finish isn't as nice as the Sig, but it functioned perfectly well...

i owned the NP34 and had a friend bring his Sig to the range many times. the fit and finish on the Sig is better as stated but as far as function i found besides a lighter smoother trigger pull there wasn't much diffrence. If all you plan on doing with it is let other people experince comp shooting them the NP34 will work perfect i put thousands of rounds threw mine and never had a stopage. just my 2 cents.

Hey heavenIsAlie ,

That's what I 've been shooting at our ATHL matches this year, and once I picked up some better mags, no stoppages or issues with it at all. I really like it.

If we get the winter match up and running in Edmonton, let me know if you're coming and I'll bring it in for you to check out (or later matches, or even if you are up this way for whatever).

Sorry bout that, had to get back north. I'm sure we'll meet up again for ATHL.

The NP-34 will take pretty much any Sig 228 part, so there is a short trigger available that will drop in.(haven't got one in mine).

A gunsmith should be able to lighten the trigger up. I did a little polishing here and there to smooth mine out (still kinda heavy DA, but lighter SA).

Here are some pics (o.k., a lot of pics... 24 to be exact). Hope this helps. I am going to have a lot more to say about the NP-34 in this section in the near future. I'm working on the mother-of-all-ghostie-threads right now. It should answer a ton of questions people have about the 228, 229, 239 and NP-34.

Comparisons with the SIG P229R:

Note that the NP-34/228 slide is straightwalled, whereas the 229 flares out toward the bottom, making it a thicker looking gun. The 229 is rounded on the top. The 228/NP-34 have various flat angles on top.

The SIG 229 barrel is the one with the worn finish. Note small differences between the barrels, but they are interchangeable.

NP-34 mag on the left, these are junk. Use SIG or Mec-Gar mags. 228, 229 9mm and NP-34 mags are interchangable.

Note the "improved" Chinese design on the locking block. It fully supports the aluminum rail. The new .40S&W Norinco 226 goes even futher, making the locking block part of the rail. CanAmmo has pics of this in the dealers section.

Adding a couple more:

Note the old-style trigger bar string. My NP-34 (probably all SIG clones) came with a spare trigger bar spring and slide-stop spring (the other paper-clip looking thing).

the finish on the norc looks no where near as nice as the sig, but i guess that is to be expected
