Thanks for all the info people, this thread is for information only. I do not posses a wilderness permit. I will try for one later on. I still need to take the wilderness handgun course. I am waiting for my restricted license to come in the mail. The CFC may not give me a permit anyway.

Wilderness carry permits are certainly not a sure thing here in Canada. Good luck with getting one. I urge you to reconsider your choice of sidearm. I may be wrong about this, but I believe that .357 magnum is a legal minimum for Wilderness carry. If its not a legal minimum, I would certainly consider that a minimum in my books. I would lean more towards a .44 mag or .45 colt if I was getting something to defend myself against bears.
