Norinco NP22 vs NZ85B?

I've owned both a CZ Shadow SP-01 and an older Sig p226, but had to sell them in my divorce. Funds don't allow for a real CZ or Sig, and I've read decent things about both of these norinco clones. I would like to get back into basic range fun with a 9mm.

Now, which do you feel is a better path to start on? A friend has a Norc Sig clone in 40S&W, and he had LPA adjustable sights on it, and a Sig short reset trigger on it. It shoot well, I feel. Is the CZ85 clone similarly modify-able?

I'm leaning towards the NP22 or 34, but would like to hear some opinions first.

NP22 is mechanically simple, and can be upgraded with SIG parts. All it needs is a deep clean, maybe some minor deburring, and SIG E2 kit if you want a smaller grip.

NZ85 not so sure. Parts may or may not work across various CZ clones.

That said, a low mileage SIG P320 off the EE might be another decent option.

I've had one of the first runs of the nz85b for 6 or so years now. On my particular pistol the internals are the same as genuine CZ, EXCEPT! Some of the pins are a different diameter. Some parts can be made to fit but it's not so simple as swapping in a CZ hammer. The springs however swap over no problem. I simply swapped to CZ springs and gave the internals a light polish on a fine stone and it now has a trigger superior to my CZ shadowline. Front sight is the same cut as CZ. Rear sight cut is narrower but can be opened up by a gunsmith to CZ for sight upgrades. Functions with CZ, Mecgar and Tanfoglio mags no problem. It's been a great pistol for me.

I have a NP 34 that shoots great, but I also "splurged" on a VG condition surplus CZ 85 pre-B model which I love. Keep in mind the CZ pre-B magazines can be few and far between. I think you would enjoy either of them. The simple answer is buy both, but I'm greedy by nature. ;)

I have the NP58 in 40 S&W like your friend. While it shoots very well, I had to do a lot of work on the feed ramps (frame and barrel) to get it to feed every type of ammo. I have heard that the 9mm NP22 series pistols don't have the same issues with feeding. It is very accurate, with a nice single action trigger pull, but a long reset. Double action is not great. BTW, it has a very large grip if you have small hands.

I also have an NZ85B; what everyone else is telling you is true. Function is flawless, trigger pull is amazing for the price point; but I changed the grips. The Norinco grips, I found slippery. You will need to file the grips a bit as CZ ones don't quite fit. This gun fits me very well.

I also have one of their 1911s in .45, it too is a great gun with a good trigger; and I have one in 9mm on the way. My 45 shoots great too.

My NP 58 has a very nice high grade finish on the frame; the slide is brushed blue. It has the nicest finish I have ever seen on a Norinco. The other two are nice too, just not quite at the same level. My NZ is blue frame, satin chrome slide; my 1911 is all satin chrome. I will never sell any of them.

Cool; I got an old set of the hard plastic CZ75 Military grips for $10.00; and not as nice as the rubber CZ ones; way better than the Norinco ones. I got a set of Uncle Mikes overmolded rubber grips for the NP58, and they are great! My hand no longer hurts after 100 rounds. LOL.
