Norinco NP28 Race gun

Clarence at Bumblbee custom machine in prince george (trained at armco) would be the guy to talk to. Hes a great guy and did an awesome job on my norc 1911 and my ruger 1911
 
I would pass on it due to the proprietary magazines that are only made by Norinco and have spotty availability.

STI/SVI 2011s are more or less the standard platform these days for building race guns.
 
9mm out of a 5" barrel under $400! You can't go wrong and let me tell you - they hold their value. a great way to learn about 1911s if yer not afraid to tinker.
 
I would consider one of the ones from Roger Kotanko of Dark International (quoted in the article). They cost more ($650) but they are made to his specs and I "think" he tunes them. I have handled one and I believe the owner said they take Para mags, which are better than the Norinco ones. Plus Roger's pistols are available in '40.

I know a couple of guys who have run the Dark pistols extensively in IPSC and they have been very reliable. I don't believe that 1911's are for tinkering: any changes or work should be done by a gunsmith if you want them to "run" and be reliable.

There are lots of good used open guns around, they are generally expensive to build and are not worth the sum of their parts.
 
not worth it, the cheapest way to get a good open gun is with a glock or buy an old used single stack before you go all in and but a 3k+ made to your liking one
 
quick question, why are you handicapping yourself with a single stack in open division? unless you meant standard, in which case same question... classic is the only place where single stacks belong.

like awesome said, given the amount you will spend building up a norc to be anywhere as fast (AND reliable at the same time) as you want - there are tons or better options.
