Has anyone ever tried this on the Norinco. Will the 1911 Novak style mount work. The sights on the Norinco are crap and I am currently selling this pistol even though I like everything about it, but the sights are crap.
If I could mount a Burris fast fire to it I would keep it for sure

There are some variations in NP29 slide cuts. Might very well accept a mount intended for a standard 1911.

Most of the NP29 are cut with a straight dovetail in the rear of the slide. I have one of their 1911As with the adjustable rear sight, and these have the slide milled to accomodate the adjustable rear sight (which is not perfect, but is much better than their standard offering. My 1911 is my most accurate pistol (or I just am able to shoot it better) of my center-fire pistols.

Another consideration is to have the slide cut. (red tower armouries comes to mind). Relatively inexpensive.

I also have the NP29 and I'm having such a hard time with the iron sights. This is my first pistol and my old eyes aren't what they used to be. I was gonna ask basically the same question as the OP. So how difficult is it to change out or upgrade the sights on this model. Is it something I could do myself or would I have to take it to a gunsmith to do?

View attachment 187872You can do it your self if you can find the mount that fits your dovetail cut.
mine has a Novak cut on the gun when I bought it from a Fellow here, used the burris fast fire base and Vortex sight. works great , the Vortex uses the same base as Burris, Doctor as well I think, but have never tried one of them.

Another picture, from sighting in at 50ft, but never got the dot in, crappy picture, but givers you a idea, Novak cut on slide 1911 Norc,45 , slide, trigger , match barrel, bushing by Roger Kotanko, Dark International, out shoots any 45 I have owned, mind you I have never owned any 3k ones.

kind of hard with out a picture, but the sight base is on 2 levels, front of dovetail is normal, behind the dovetail cut it is lowered, some of you young computer guys maybe could draw a picture.

There you go, maybe I could have figured that out, but I thought someone will do it, I am still in the flip phone era, but I run that phone for about 100-150.oo per year

No worries. I still have an old Star tact phone from years ago that I sometimes think I'd rather go back to if I could get batteries for it. It was an awesome flip.

Your Norc rear sight cut is a standard Colt 1911 cut. Every makers makes a sight to fit.

The front sight dovetail is probably a smaller than average dovetail. Buy whatever you like and have the gunsmith widen the cut.

So if I wanted to mount a reflex sight ( is that what you have on yours... Sorry I'm new to this ) I would have to mount some sort of new base with a matching dovetail and pictianny top in order to mount the new reflex correct?

The red dot, yes reflex site I guess, I am old school and to me it is a red dot, or green dot?
if you look at a burras mount picture, you will see a flat plate and a dovetail piece.
Push out the old sight, slide in the new dovetail piece,it is not tight, set the flat plate on the dovetail, with the two holes lined up with 2 holes on the dovetail, and install 2 screw that come with it and tighten the flat plate down on the dove tail, center it on gun, when you tighten the screws, it pulls the dovetail up and tight.
than you set your sight on 4 small posts on the base , install 2 more screws and that holds the site on the base.
Clear as Mud?
On this system, you don't use the weaver/ pict. base that comes with the sights.
If you had a rail on the top of the gun , than you would , and would not need the dovetail mount.
I have a mount for a sig, that I have not used, I could take a pic. of it , a bit different, same idea, could take a while to find, I think it is packed in the gunshow stuff.
But if you go to burras fast fire, they should have a picture.
I took me longer to type this , than it did to install the base and sight on the gun.
If you have trouble, it will be getting the original sight off, most come off easy, sometimes, not so easy., check for a set screw in the top of sight first.
P.S. there is a itybitty set screw on the top front of the plate to turn down to hold front of plate even on top of slide( elevation) sort of, I just set that so it touched the slide with out any pressure, as this was a new set up and it is fine , so I haven't messed with that, you have to take the sight off to adjust, if you elevation was way out you could raise the front of the base with it, but mine was close when I powered up in the shop.
