Norinco NP58 (the Sig 226 clone)

Doesnt really compare well at all! It looks quite similiar but pick it up and it doesnt hold or feel anything like a SIG. Trigger pull couldnt have been much worse on the one I handled.

IMHO

I am running an NP58 lower with a Sig barrel and a Dlask slide. Bastard gun yes, but it runs great with any ammo I have put in it. The DA trigger is smooth and it is damn accurate as well.
I could be happier with it. And yes, I have run the real thing on the range and else where. Before someone jacks this and it turns into a " I hate Norico crap" thread, for the cash it is a real deal.
YMMV,

I bought one NIB from a bud who never fired it. I haven't fired it yet either, can't find the time. Looks like some positive comments here, so I'm looking forward to it. One thing I have to get used to is it doesn't point as naturally for me as a 1911, hopefully this will change with practice.

The first reaction I had when I picked mine up was: “this is exactly what the real P226 feels like”! Weight, balance, grip girth, etc… in fact, other than the sights it is almost exactly like a Sig (minus high end finish), but that is until you try pulling the double action trigger! Mine was about 14 or 15 lbs in DA and quite rough, and the single action was about 5.5lbs. The sights aren’t bad, but nowhere near the sights on real Sigs.

I have only 300 rounds through it, 100 Win USA 165gr and 200 reloads with 150gr and 180gr bullets. It hasn’t jammed but once, on the third mag while shooting weak handed (I honestly limpwristed it). I cleaned up the trigger a little bit and SA is now 4 lbs and reasonably clean. DA is still too heavy.

One thing I don’t like is that it ejects empties all over the place, including my head and face. I ended up filing an angle to the ejector’s face, like on Sigs (it was originally square faced) and it helped a bit, but not much. I also put some more tension on the extractor (about as much as on my 1911), because it just didn’t hold the brass at all, it just floated underneath the claw. However, I think the reason might just be a weak recoil spring. The Sig P226 in .40 S&W is supposed to have a 20lb recoil spring, but it is much, much easier to retract the slide on my NP58 than it is on my Para P14-45, which has only a 16lb recoil spring with over 4,500 rounds on it. So I’m planning on putting in either a 20lb or 22lb recoil spring and see what happens.

All in all, I am very happy with this gun. The fit and finish is even close to some Sigs I’ve seen, and certainly much better than I would expect from a 350$ gun. And, as everybody else seem to agree, the plastic grips just have to go.
