I'm looking for an affordable accurate .22lr bolt and I narrowed it down to the Norinco NS-522 and Savage Mark II FV Heavy Barrel.. I don't want to spend over $300 and I'm looking to shoot something that can shoot sub 1/4" groupings at 50 yards. Also something rugged and I don't have to worry about getting it scratched or banged up.
 
In that price range the Savage will be your best bet. Asking any $300 rifle to shoot 1/4" groups at 50yds is unrealistic, though. Rifles that can consistently do that cost thousands, wear scopes that cost thousands and shoot ammo that is $10+ per box. $300 isn't going to cut it.

In my experiences, the savage will get you very close to the 1/4 inch you want. but if you want better, as stated above....it will cost you many times the cost of the Savage.
 
Often it's the shooter, not the gun that decides the grouping.
Shoulder them both for size and see which one fits better. I don't care much for the plastic stock on the Savages.
 
A Savage bull barrel MK ll is a tuff customer to beat in this price range, here some pictures from 50 yards, groups are from under .25 MOA to .5 MOA with Green tag ammo... JP.

Well I saw a Marlin XT-22VR but don't remember from which dealer I looked at?.. I'm really stuck between those two guns (Norinco NS-522 or Savage MKII FV), not really interested in getting a CZ-452 because I know I am going to get it banged up! Need a cheap .22lr that I don't have to worry about getting it banged up.
 
I say the savage. Only cause my cheapo entry level pencil barrel mark2 can shoot groups like caramel posted with winchester bulk ammo.
Cheap rifle that likes cheap ammo, I call that a major win. I've also had 2, 1/2" 100yard groups with it, took a few tries but I did it.

My father-in-law also has this rifle and it is really nice with the laminate wood stock. The accu-trigger is great! and it groups very well with cheap bulk ammo!

You do realize that at 50yds, 0.5MOA is just over 0.25" and 0.25MOA is a touch over 0.125", right? If those are .22 calibre holes in the paper none of those groups is less than 0.5MOA (though a couple look like they could be just a bit over 0.5MOA), let alone close to 0.25MOA.

i have a savage and its great but i have been having a urge to try the Norc because i have been reading and seeing some good stuff from it.
ill probably buy one this winter and drop a cheap glass on it and test it out because i have to know!!!!

Good god man, with all the money you spend on guns, you could at least splurge on a frigging proper gun rest.....I see couch pillows, a dog bed, and a life jacket?....wtf man lol

I never shoot from there usually but since my neiborg was out, i did it, this was a fast setup... JP.

I have spent a couple days behind a friends Savage Mark II FV-SR and it was awesome.
Very accurate little bugger with the CCI Constant velocity rounds we were using, and very fun to shoot. Pretty sure its the next rifle I am getting :p

I have an FV-SR also, and I love it. I like to lob sub-sonics out of it.
