Thanks in advance

There are a few options for aftermarket stocks for the Anschutz 1710/1712 models.

If the NS552 is in fact an Anschutz clone, which action is it alleged to have cloned -- the 14xx sporter action (e.g. 1420 or 1422) or the newer 17xx sporter action (e.g. 1710 or 1712)? I don't have the dimensions of the older receiver on hand, but I understand the 14xx and 17xx differed in front action screw location and tang shape.

In case it helps, below are some images of the 17xx receivers. The receiver is 30mm (1.18") in diameter. What diameter is the NS522 receiver?

The location of action bolts for Anschütz 171x are different (in front of mag well and behind trigger group) from that of Anschütz 14/18xx models (in front of mag well and in between mag/trigger), so a direct fitment would not be possible. However, anything can be modified/drilled and pillared.

The area I suspect will require most work is actually the mag well but this is speculation as I have not worked on a NS522 for fitment. There are a number of CGNers who have NS522 projects posted with custom stocks etc.

The "14/18xx models" to which you refer are not sporter versions. The older sporter 54 rifles included the 1420 and 1422 models. These are very different from the single shot rifles such as the 1407, 1411, 1413 and similar 18xx's.

The single shot Match 54's will be like the 1913/1907 below.

I should have been more specific, I was referring to Match 54 Repeaters (eg 1427B, 1827B, etc) action screw pattern being closest to the NS 522 (which is a 'Match 54 Repeater clone' of sorts). Specifically, the screws are located at the front and just after the mag. I have no idea whether the NS 522 has the same dimensional spacing for the action screws however but it wouldn't be like the 1710 with a rear action screw.

However, it is also my understanding that NS 522s don't have a bedding block either apart from other aforementioned differences.

Can anyone post a picture of the NS522 receiver out of the stock? It would be helpful to determine not only where the action screws are located but if in fact it's an Anschutz clone of any kind.

I found this specific post in the thread I referenced above. It shows that the action screws are not really aligned the same as a real Annie.

The poster had modified the NS 522 with a 5071 trigger, accepts CZ mags and mocked up a fitment on in an Anschütz stock.

Thank you and I will look into this!

I pillar and glass bedded the garbage stock, and compare with my Suhl 150 - what the NS 522 was cloned..... Now I want a better stock for the 522.

I kind of thought I was the only one still playing with one of these great rifles. I built my own stock for mine a few years ago. It was a bit of a process, but I don't really have all that much for woodworking tools. I used a band saw, drill press and cheap router table to do the really rough shaping and I letting, then the rest was done with hand tools. I've refined the shape a bit since I took this picture.

For anyone looking for mags, the 10 round ones for a Scorpio are pretty easy to make work with the existing magwell.

^^^ 2nd the above Scorpio mags, doesn't take much, just needs the front of the mag lip modded from straight across, file a U into it like the 522 mags and they work just fine.
For the stock, just glass bed the action and the trigger housing and it's solid. It's a 22, doesn't need 40 inch pounds torque on the action screws.
Yes the Chu wood stock is pretty soft, ain't a bad shape though, comfortable enough the way it is on bench or off hand, just needs bedding as mentioned to avoid compression.

Regarding the stock, i never found it to be comfortable to hold in any position. One of my someday projects is to reshape the stock to a cz 452 profile while it gets a bedding job. But that’s just me.

I love the fact that the scorpio 10 rounders work in them.

I got tired of reloading on 12 round PRS stages, so I made a 3d printed extension and mine hold 12 rounds now. IMG_20230116_165023.jpg
