Hey CGN.
This thread is about the NZ 85B.

A while back I' ve started a thread about one of the other norc clones that got some traction and attention and people really liked it. It involved a lot of research and reading, that put together a nice resource ( a wisdom and knowledge from all of you) for the model (NP 22 namely).

I wanted to do the same for the NZ 85b and to my surprise information on CGN was limited... very limited. Some posts suggest that there are people with substantial experience and knowledge with this model.
In this thread, as the title says and just like Wikipedia ( all users can add their useful info), and I am asking you to share and add please all the "good to know" info about the NZ 85 model.

I will try to summarize what are the most commonly mentioned items:
trigger pull, springs, finish (sharp edges), grips, sights and mags.

I recently got one brand new in two tone. I wanted all blued but went for the two tone fot the better cost offer. I do not regret it, service was super fast and the chrome slide is awesome.
I really wanted one for a while, and now i have it. ( sure enough a week later one popped on EE,) but still i do not regret buying it new.

My first impressions were very nice finish, but also very heavy DA , mostly due to stiff springs.
Grips were plastic not impressive but the overall was wow!

So off i went to find some grips... but are the grips for a 75, 85 ? Do the Shadow 1 grips fit, Tanfoglio, but which model, Witness / full size? Which are the best ? VZ? Rubber, wood, plastic?

Same ?? Came with the springs ( i have managed to loosen mine to the point where now they are fine, just shoot them more.

Mags, cz75 fit .. how about canik?

So, these questions and other relevant info that you'd like to share in this topic would be great to have in one spot.
Thanks very much for your input to place all the NZ 85B info together.

I'm very happy with mine. I had to grind some relief into the dust-cover portion of the frame as it was rubbing on the slide. My trigger was OK out of the box, and after about 4000 rounds; even better! I have 4 Norinco mags and they all function perfectly. I also discovered the with an IWI Jericho .40 mag I can load 15 9mm and they all feed perfectly.

The grips... Factory ones leave a lot to be desired. I picked up an old pair of CZ factory military hard plastic ones, and while they were not as slippery, they still were not great. I have since picked up original CZ75 rubber over-molded grips, and these made a heck of an improvement in both grip and comfort. You need these! Those grips do fit right on, but the screw holes are too small; you need to run a drill bit through the grip, and clean the flash out of the screw hole, then they fit right on the pistol.

Identical to these:

I've had mine a few years, and haven't used it much as I greatly prefer revolvers, but think everyone should also have a pistol or two or ??

I installed these Hogue CZ 75 grips as the factory ones were too slick, and I prefer the finger-grooved type plus they add a bit of needed bulk.
I put neon orange acrylic paint on the front sight as the white dot just didn't show up well to my old eyes, and ignore the white dots on the back sight as they're too small so I'll probably black them out.
For magazines I have factory Norinco, E-Lander and K-Mag and they all seem to work well in my pistol.
Double action trigger pull is heavy, single action not bad (but neither can compare with a decent revolver in my opinion).
The recoil spring seems to be overly heavy to me as I'm merely a plinker with this pistol so load it up to middling levels only, but on the positive side it doesn't fling the brass 20 feet away.
It's overall external finish is actually quite good for the price of the pistol, and mine doesn't seem to suffer from over-sharp edges.
The pistol is solidly built, feels good in the hand and if I used it more I don't doubt that the trigger pulls would improve.

I recently bought an other CZ "clone", an IWI Jericho in .40 S&W, full size, all steel. Tenda was offering them for $559.00 (maybe still is) . Great pistol; tighter and smoother than even a CZ, with a better trigger. It came with three mags. I have not tried the NZ85 mags in it, but I was able to load 15 rounds of 9mm in the Jericho mag; and surprise of surprizes, it not only fit in the NZ85, but functioned perfectly on all 15 rounds; even held the slide open after the last shot!

While I will never sell my NZ85, I am thinking about trying to get a 9 mm steel Jericho. The grips are better than the factory Norinco ones, but not as nice as the CZ factory grips. Screw location is different, so CZ grips will not fit.

Very nice animation video for disasembly of a CZ 75 and all its parts location and sequence. Great for newbies when we loose a spring or
you take it apart and .. then what ??

when i had my 75 B, i changed the trigger to flat single action and found some great you tube video's that were explaining everything step by step. they are fairly easy to dissemble and if they are a copy of the 75 models, don't know why it should be any different. i have been thinking of getting a Norc but been hesitating because of thrust issue, reading these replies helps me make up my mind. anyhow always many that are sold second hand un CGN and for most, prior owners had already started doing some upgrades.

where is the best place to buy the Norc's? the only place i know of is MArstar...
cheers all!

Depends what Norc you are after. Often EE has brand new 1911, NP 22. NZ 85 are rare ..but you can buy them new from Canada Ammo and one more dealer (DD). The latter is with mixed feelings here but i was very happy with their service and comms. Absolutely no complaints.
