Norinco Olympia pistol 22LR only 199$

Hi Guys,

I have been unable to find anything like an Owner's Manual online, but this link is better than nothing ...

https://www.bevfitchett.us/firearms-assembly/legend-rxm.html

For instance, here's a cut-and-paste from the very first actual instruction ... with a handy little tidbit of info that I did not know ...

Remove the magazine and check chamber to be sure the gun is empty. Remove the weights. Pull down on the front of the trigger guard (MM), push it to the side until it catches on a lip in the receiver (S). Draw the slide to the rear, lift it up off the receiver, and ease it forward over the barrel.

Alternatively, you could watch a video on you tube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFzPK5ZZ7Rw or even a Canadian one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXnWAhRFPEg.

I had already watched both of those videos a couple of times ... the day after my pistol arrived. Definitely elucidating ...

However, look more closely at what I had posted ... specifically the stuff in boldface italics ...

Neither guy in those videos mentioned that the trigger guard could be secured in the opened/lowered position ... I learned about it only later when I happened to read about it in that link.

(I had already noticed ... when removing the slide, that it was more-than-a-little awkward/challenging for my right hand to hold the pistol and also simultaneously hold-open ... against the spring pressure ... the trigger guard ... while my left hand was removing the slide.)

The specific info in the boldface italics was what mostly prompted me to make the post.

Both guys in those videos were unaware that the trigger guard could be secured in the opened/lowered position ... as I was, until I happened the read about it in that link.

Cool, thanks for sharing!

It works exactly the same way as for the Walther PP, PPK, PPK/S and Makarov. That's the Walther's staple since the mid 1920's.

The video that you link to here (and thank you for that) is just 13 days old and was not available when I received my pistol, but the gentleman here obviously uses the hold-open feature on the trigger guard ... and clearly mentions it as well.

Wondering about spare mags.

American copies made by TripleK are not great, I heard.
Original Norc mags are hard to find: Marstar brought some as mags+grips kits. Is it possible to get more?
S&W 41 mags allegedly work in the Olympia with some modifications - anyone tried?

Edit: Thank you for the info, Marstar!

Right now the mags from TripleK are the only ones we have. We will not be getting any more grips/mags from Norinco, they have none.

Saw your post ^^^ so I tried it just now.

It appears that 41 mags can be made to work. It slides into the mag well nicely, till it's 3/4's in. Press the magazine release and it will go in fully once the catch passes the 41 mag catch slot.
Fits in quite nicely, I believe all that would have to be done is very carefully measure and mill a new mag catch slot to suit.

Just picked up my 2 Olympia's from the post office today and got em cleaned up. One has the rear sight set all the way to the left (hope it's an error) and I can move it closer to center sighting it in. The other has issues and will not accept any of the 4 mags without holding the mag release button in and you have to pry the mags out and even push down from the inside of the pistol as well as pulling from the bottom. Gonna have to check into it further and see whats going on. Overall impression is meh it was $200 each one of them has to be a shooter right?

If it makes you feel any better the consensus with these guns seems to be that all the controls are stiff and edges are sharp. My safety was so hard to move that I had to knock it up and down about 20 times with a hammer and nylon punch. After that it loosened up and is now easily movable using my thumb. The mags were also difficult to insert and extract but after whacking them in a dozen times or so they started to insert smoothly. They still don't drop free but release far enough that they are easy to pull out with thumb and forefinger. My sight had to be moved a few turns to the right (it was shooting about 6" left). Shoot the gun, find out where the point of impact is and adjust accordingly. Be careful when turning the adjustment screws as they are TINY and the heads are easy to butcher. When you know which way the sight has to be moved back off the screw on that side. That allows the opposite screw to be turned further in. Once you have reached the spot you want snug up the backed off screw so that both screws are bearing solidly against the sight. Someone commented that the screws could move and to Locktite them which is normally good advice but the screw heads are so small & fragile I am afraid if it did that I might permanently ruin them when I try to adjust them again so I'll just periodically make sure they are snug. Get a very fine tipped screwdriver with a decent handle. The typical micro screwdriver handles aren't big enough to get adequate leverage.

I received mine on Dec 22nd and cleaned it up yesterday. I was expecting a disaster but wasn't too bad.

Considering it's a Norinco it acutally looks/feels great and has some good heft to it. My example has dark blueing and no obvious flaws on the exterior finish, etc.
The safety is stiff and inserting an empty mag on a closed slide takes a good tap but both are getting better with repetition. Both mags drop free.

My only other 22lr HG is a Ruger MKiii with a 4.25" standard profile barrel.
The Ruger is a great little plinker and I think the Olympia will also be. The trigger is crisp and "light". It already beats the Ruger in take-down.....so easy. 8rnd mags is a negative......

got mine from Marstar and was very impressed. FYI....started using it with Winchester Wildcat and got constant jams and failure to extract, but upscaled to better ammo and it works flawlessly now.

Took mine to the range for the first time and after reading some of the previous reviews here I wasn't expecting to much from the pistol. SUPRISE....My sights were centered and dead on...mags went in and dropped out as they should...no fuss...no muss. I ran 100rds of Federal value pack...went bang with every pull of the trigger. No FTF or FTE....All in all it going to be a fun little pistol....I plan on using it when I take people to the range for the first time.

Got notice from Canada post mine will be arriving today. No indoor range here and looks like the temps will be heading to the hell hole in a few days so have a short time to get out and try it.
