I am very interestied in getting a M14. I am the type that just likes to shoot and not to tinker or modify anything. I just want quality right out or the box. So my question is this, do I buy the cheaper Norcico or spend more on the M1A? Any info or personal experience is appreciated.
 
They shoot the same/similar. One looks better close up. You'll most likely want to change the M305 stock to fiberglass. Other than it could be left as it. And $1600 cheaper.
 
There's nothing wrong with the Norc.

And, there is absolutely no need to change to fibreglass. The USGI fibreglass feels like crap.

Just refinish the wood.
 
If you like wood, you can get a Boyd's for a couple of hundred. The Chu wood stock will compress over time in the recoil lug area, and accuracy will degenerate. The essential dimensions of the Norc are closer to GI than an SAI. The quality of materials is higher in the Norc, but the way it's finished is not as good. The question comes down to this, do you prefer style or substance?

Wasnt there a thread just a little while ago discussing this very subject? Cmon, man you gotta put in a little effort on your own. Besides that, just by looking at some of the threads does anyone even need to ask the generally accepted view of the norc M14? Its a great rifle, get one, or two. Dont be a brand snob.:dancingbanana:

i hope i'm not stepping on toes. i own 3 norcs, all modified:ie match barrels, trw bolt, match sights etc. if i will only own one m14, i'll go for the springfield armory. its just for personal reason.................

then spend the remaining difference of the SA on upgrades for the norinco, and youve got a rifle about 1000 times better than the SA.

why would you do anything else. its insane and illogical
 
Love my norky- for $500. you can't go wrong - shoots like a dream - gonna buy another. I'm sure the SA's are dressed up better but I can't believe they shoot much better. Mine shot 10 rounds in 3 inches at 100 meters out of the box with open sights and I'm steady like a Hastings street crackhead in withdrawl. :runaway: You do the math. Don't think - buy now.

I should put my "Left Foot Of Doom" up your a#@ for a post like that man. I am new to this whole area of firearms and people like you who think you know everything really make newbies like me mad. I have been looking over the threads and I realize that the Norinco is a good rifle but it seems to me that everybody does alot of modification. I wanted to know was the best right out of the box!!!!

Thanks for your view, but I think I know who the brand snob is!!!!
 
Both the norc's I've owned have shot 1.5" at 100m, right out of the box.

Airborn_69 can attest to it, he has shot both and now owns one of them.

He has also seen how the wood refinishes. He went back to a stock I refinished in MinWax, over a USGI fibreglass.
