Norinco or Springfield M-14?

Hey guys,

I'm just trying to get some advice. I am in the market for an M-14. I was budgeting on buying a Springfield but the guy at the gun store said that when it comes to M-14 Norinco is the way to go. I find that hard to believe given the s*** Norinco turns out.

I want a reliable, straight shooter. Where should I put my money?
 
Don't buy ONE Norinco M14. Not a single one....

Buy TWO of them.

Your choice, depends what kinda budget you are working with, what your tinkering comfort level is, what brand of beer you buy , drink, or bring to a party anonymously. :D

Either way, the M14 is an addictive platform. :evil: And yes, I do fix many Sproingfields, too. :nest:

I have been bitten by the Hungry M14 disease (yes, one side effect is your #### will NOT fall off). I have spent some time researching Norinco M14's as well as Springfields.

While they both have their issues, ultimatly the Norinco platform is by far cheaper, and the fixes quite well documented and rather inexpensive.

Hope that helps. My advice, watch the M14 clinic video that is freely available for download or put a PM to that guy above who can get you a copy mailed for $8.

PS - I'm picking my very first one up on Monday from Roger at Dark International .. if I can ever get ahold of him that is! :redface:
 
as hungry says don't buy one buy two.... or 10 :D
my vote goes to the norc rifles.... and while springfield makes some very nice product........ my vote still goes to the norc..... and that coupled with all the norinco flavoured support here on cgn...... a guy can't go too far wrong. Have a problem with your spingfield..... and it's red tape and months of waiting to have it serviced by it's u.s. warranty facility
 
I would skip the springfield...not especially good builds in my experience. I would be inclined to get either a Nork (of which I have five) or an LRB (costs as much as the other five.)

There are other makers, but I'd go with either the Nork, which is at least as good as the Springfield, or the LRB, which is better than either, with price to match.

SAI - because let's not confuse them with the original Springfield, totally different company - has pretty well documented QC issues. You might get a great gun, and you might get one that is not very good.

That's also true of the norks, but then they're four hundred bucks, and if you get one that is not that great, you can fix it up and still be under $500. If you get a screwy springfield...well...it's probably no bigger expense, but I think it's a bigger headache. And, you spent something like $1500-2000 to get it.

I would get at least one n-14, I think it's every Canadian's duty to own one!
 
i have played with a few springfields and i will admit (8ball.... this ones for you ;) ) they are sweet firearms. The socom II is a very nice piece of kit.
the cost is up there but i would challenge that a resourceful norinco m14s owner could build a springfield quality equivalent for about the same amount of money..... with all usgi parts rather than new production springfield parts.
buy 2 norcs, sell one for parts, keep the receiver, source your parts and import them through an importer...... pay someone 150.00 to put her together..... done deal hehehehe it's that simple (not)
i completed a FULL norc to usgi conversion today, took an hour and a half , need to lap bolt to .308 . only norc part left is the actual receiver.
I'm not going into the details of what this cost me...... but..... what would you rather have an all usgi norc or a springfield....... both can be purchased for about the same amount of money.
 
I Have a Norc and it is completely stock except for some improvement to the stock in the form of sanding, rounding corners etc.

It has but one purpose: To be abused and have fun while doing it. It ate port and SA ammunition like bon bons, got so hot it smoked, and I don't give a damned about its accuracy, it is all about having fun!!!! I could never do that with a $2000 rifle, and even though I sell M14 match barrels, I'll never put one on it... that would be like putting a new Cummins engine in a demolition derby car.
 
when you buy a norc you are buying a $400 quality receiver, all the other parts are free, they still work very well for the money, or buy parts all u want & you will probably still spend less in the end for a better gun...........
 
From what I've read and not experianced the standard m1a may not even be at par with the norc. I'd buy the norc and then another. I'm happy with mine less the stock which is a relatively easy fix.
 
I was a Norc hater until I bought an m14s hungover on a Sat. am. I wasn't paying attention and frankly forgot I bought it.

After some minor tweeks it looks great and shoots much much better than expected. (coffee cans on a stick with irons at 100m is no issue)

I am going to do a brl. chop and and switch the sights out as soon as the parts arrive.

I have some but not a ton of usgi parts and I am in for about $900 at this point. (4 usgi mags included in that figure)

Sadly you just can't go wrong with the norc.
 
I love my Nork.

The stock sucks, and the sight is drilled off center but I don't care. It was $500 well spent.

Shoots 2" with hunting ammo off the bench and thats better than I ever can, so...works for me.
 
I have a safe full of norincos, a couple springfields, and an LRB M14SA. The LRB is by far the nicested and, IMHO, worth the monster coin it demands. That being said, I have had an absolute gas running many thousands of rounds through my chinese guns. The chinese receivers are excellent, and the rest of the parts are great too with the exception of the stock and the rear sight assembly. I don't think you can go wrong with the chinese gun....

Usgi parts were built to exact military tolerances both in dimension and in hardness.
NOT to be confused with modern day springield parts

Brobee...... i am starting to go through the process of bringin in my own LRB receiver..... i'm going with the M25 :D .... thanx for inspiring me hehehe

Take the money you'd spend on the Springfield, and buy yourself a couple of Norcs and a pile of ammo, and shoot yourself silly :).
