Q I want the most accurate non-restricted semi-auto rifle in .308 that I can take anywhere?
A Easy, you want an M1A. Non-restricted
Q But I hear that M1As are a losing battle for maintaining accuracy?
A But there's lots of help around and you can have a whole sideline hobby tinkering with it.
Q I've got money and time. Whats the best way to go. Norinco or Springfield?
A For the money, you can rebuild the excellent Norinco receiver with USGI parts for the same money as a springer. You'll scrounge for the parts, but they're a real keeper. And its non-restricted, so you can shoot it anywhere.
Q This is starting to sound like a LOT of work. I hear the AR10T is far superior for match shooting out of the box.
A Many competition shooters love the M16 type rifle. But in Canada you cannot fire it except for on an approved range.
Q Oh? I see. I'll get a Norinco then. I can run it anywhere, and I'll build myself a sub-MOA rifle. Its one step closer to my dream of competing in shooting sports
A Atta boy. You're all set. Just remember, you can't take a Norinco with you into the US.
Q WTF? I thought you said I could shoot it anywhere.
Answer from some completely different helpful guy
What you really need is a Sig in .223.
Hungry chimes in familiar sarcasm "buy one quick, or your #### will fall off."
Sprint giggles to himself.
Entirety of CGN groans "here we go again"
Baby Jebus cries.
The only reason that I can think of to favour the Springfield Inc. rifle is the fact that you can take it to the U.S. (You can never take your Norinco there.) This may or may not be an issue to you.
I have now spent quite a bit of time with both...
I would go with the Norinco every time.
I have seen 4 moa springers...and 8 moa socoms.
I buy norks, and spend about another $200 making them exactly the way I want them. My $600 rifles are generally better than the springfields I have shot...not as pretty but better shooters and (bizarrely) at least equal in terms of QC.
I would never spend the money on a springfield now. And I could easily afford it.

I love this rifle and this is coming from a PE90 snob.
You've shot some s**t Springfields in your time then.
Maybe you just need to try one that hasn't been abused? Not that it matters. I've shot my share of Norincos assembled by retards too. I've two sitting in my safe, NEITHER of which touch my Socom.
I must just be really lucky.
Or, the underscored point is that it isn't that the Springfield is so s**tty, but that you've spent a lot of time tuning Norcs?
