I intend to buy 2 norinco pistols, M1911A1 "Government" .45ACP and the M-77B 9mm. I was just wondering if anyone knows what the quality of the pistols is, are they reliable? accurate? whats good about them, whats bad about them? If anyone has any info on them, please let me know.

The 1911 copies are great ( A1, Commander and their NP 29 - are what I have and am very happy with them). I have heard their HiPower copy isn't up to much. I also have heard their CZ copy is very good. Their Sig copies have had mixed reviews.

1911's are very good for the money. I can highly recomend the NP 29. Mine has been very good out of the box...

Well you can go for the full meal deal ie new trigger, sear and hammer or you can have the 'smith smooth out the trigger, sear and hammer parts and set the trigger pull to whatever weight you want. I prefer 4# and no lighter but others may have other preferences. what you end up with is a trigger with little to no take up and a very crisp let off.

Involves setting the angle on the sear, best left to a 'smith or done with some research. I would rather leave that to a smith personally.

I wouldn't advise getting the M-77B. I've heard that they are okay, but really nothing even close to being great.

What made you consider the 77B ?
I also have heard that it is a "less happy" design than some. The 1911 and CZ copies seem to be the best of the 'Rincos.

norinco 1911's and cz copies

how good is the quality of those two guns I heared good things about the 1911's , but I havent heard much about the cz copies... is it worth getting a nornico reliabillity/ quality?
or is it better to pay $300 and get a glock or a cz?

thanks for replies

thanks dave
I have the NP-40 and NZ-85, both highly recommended. Excellent shooters out of the box. Can be tweaked with minimum skill.

the m77b is reliable and exceptionally accurate. I just couldn't get used to the grip and trigger. The ergonomics just feel wrong (in my hand at least) and the trigger with its plastic covering would always make my finger sore. I never had a single stoppage with it and I would put its accuracy up with the best of them. The thing could shoot clover leafs at 25 yrds.

Ive owned many many Norincos, especialy their 1911's. Your making a very good choice. As mentioned a trigger job would be good but not needed. Best place to contact is Gunnar at Armco. For 100$ incuding return shipping ( per pistol) He will polish everything up for you and do a nice trigger job. Im not sure of he also includes a tightening with that but either way its worth the extra 100$ whenever you have it to spend. Being a complete idiot as i am, i have unfortunatly sold all my Norinco's and even just recently as yesterday traded away my Crazy custom NP-29 ( yes I got rid of my NP-29 :( ) In case you didnt know, the NP-29 is the 9mm 1911 which many many many people are chomping at the bit to have if ever they get restocked in this lifetime. The experience I had with 2 Norc Government models and one Commander model was great accuracy, reliable, warm and fuzzy to snuggle up with on cold winter nights etcc.. I shortly owned one of their Sig models but didnt have it long before i traded it, but the few times i did use it, the accuracy was fantastic. I was just trying to get a Norc commander from the EE last week but due to hobby financials i couldnt go through with it...... depressing.... . Even now with all my pistols that are considered " higher end", I'm still wanting my Norc 1911 which was always the first pistol i would grab no matter what i had or have in the gun cabinet. I think it has to do with the price and the quality that makes you just want to grab it first. Rather then grabbing the 1000-4000$ 1911 increasing the chance of getting that dreadful first ding on the way in or out of the cabinet. They just feel more useable for some reason to me. First thing you do, get some nice wood grips and you will fall desperatly in love with your 1911's. Either that or im just extremely odd and in which case you can disregard this overly long post.

Just my 2 cents and a whole lot more.

Cheers,

Rob

** P.S. You will always encounter someone who will insult your Norinco's and tell you they're garbage etc.... Chances are he'll be pretty old and never fired one in over 50 years or ever. ( no offence to anyone there ;) ) Congrats on your new purchace, cant wait till I have another shipped my way.
