Norinco/Polytech M14/M305 Help!

Hey guys, I recently just bought a Polytech m305 and I was looking to some of you veterans out there to give me a hand on a project. Just to fill you guys in the build that I wanna build will be a shorty. A hunting/tactical hybrid.

I was thinking USGI fiberglass stock (later bedded) or, JAE100 stock.
Krieger? barrel.. if there are other options out there then let me know! 18.5 1/11 twist rate, preferably stainless steel.

USGI op rod, USGI bolt carrier etc... then national match sights.

A couple of questions though, I know that ive heard that the norinco receivers are a little soft and will wear out with 4-5k rounds put through it. Would it be possible to get a LRB or a Fulton Armory receiver? Another question is Polytech M305 barrels come in metric so if i were to swap out a barrel what else would i have to swap out at the same time? Op rod? Anything else? Let me know guys, i would love to hear from you guys and lets see some pics of your previous builds! Thanks alot

Anyways, you won't be getting a Fulton receiver unless you get an importer to do that, I have no idea who does. Whoever told you the Norc receivers are soft are on crack. Chinese steel is the hardest out there and will outlast anything else.

Send Obtunded an email, he gets Kreiger barrels now and then for the M14. With the new barrel you will need a USGI spec castle nut and gas nut ring. You will also need to send your barrel and action to someone like Obtunded that can time your action to that barrel.
No need to change any other parts, but any USGI parts you can find are cool, but not all that necessary. A match op rod guide and USGI rear sight are nice too I guess.
 
Put a hundred round of so down the barrel before you even think about upgrading it, as with Norinco receiver only last 4-5K rounds? I doubt you will ever shoot that much, if it does wear out just buy another one.

As for the receivers being soft, I think you have been misinformed on that...

Other than that, I'll throw in my $.02.

Firstly, your norc receiver will be fine. The heat treating issues were resolved a long time ago and the Chinese steel in the receivers is of surprisingly good quality, so your '07 or '09 Norc/Poly M14s should be fine. As for accurizing, the big thing IMHO is to shim and unitize the gas system, and replace the Op-Rod spring guide with one of the Marstar or Neit Arms ones. As for the USGI bolt and Krieger barrel, I'd see what your headspace on the rifle is and check how it shoots before doing this, as both of those upgrades are expensive and may not be completely necessary for your purposes. You may find that with good ammo and minor tuning, your M14s is able to shoot quite well without further upgrades.

that stupid review from fulton must still be up on the net after these many years, as the "soft bolt/receiver/excess headspace /left side lug thing is STILL rearing it's ugly head- the refernce date must be about 89 or so- and it's really biased as fulton makes their own- just running down someone else's product
 
no issues with the 07/09 polys. a bit of tinkering and they are goood to go Just did a clinic with Hungry this weekend. Lots to learn, get into one if you can. Check out the MBR section for all the info you will ever need....and lastly, get lots of ammo, shoot it lots or you #### will fall off
 
A Barrel will only last about $5000 rounds or so until it loses accuracy, but a receiver will last 5 times that. Ignore anyone who tells you otherwise unless they are shooting hotrod loads all the time in it.
