I installed a target peep sight on my old $99 Norinco. Other than the stock feeling kinda short, it is a pleasure to shoot.

The first time I tested the new sight, I won a vintage rifle match aggregate. I won most of the matches except the deliberate.

Today I shot along side the Swiss Club at Camp Borden. They spend the day at 300 yards, so it was a good time and place to do the short range tests that have accumulated.

I shot the SKS prone, off a sandbag at a figure 11 target (the 4 foot charging man target). Ten shots, ten hits, 8 5's and one high and one low.

I used the CZ ammo that come in blue boxes and on stripper clips.

With my eyes, I think this is a good result. My #4 equipped with a 12X scope and handlaods was only slightly better.

SKS's are much more accurate than most give them credit for. I've seen one shoot into an just over an inch with open sights and handloads and that was at 125 yards. As far as I know the only mods were a trigger job, bolt polish, and an AR style muzzle break.

Hmmm, an SKS with a Central sight? It hardly qualifies as a vintage military rifle in my estimation. But, you are right about giving those rifles their due. With a better sight or even a simple telescope, they can shoot surprisingly well. If the Swiss will let you shoot alongside, jump right in! Those gentlemen are some of the best competitors anywhere. Gracious and competitive.

This SKS has a trigger like my AK47. Very long and smooth. Annoying at first, but I have leaned to pull it part way and then give the final squeeze.

I have a scope base on another one, but have not shot it yet. I shoudl but a 24X on it and make some match handlaods and test it for both military and handloads to see what the rifle is capable of. I expect it to be under 2".
