Yes another thread about these "knock offs" :D

Im looking into picking up a Norinco Handgun when my RPAL comes in, something cheap that I can start off with.

I'd prefer something in 9mm to start, cheaper ammo being the reason.

So on the top of my list is either the NP-22 (P226 clone) or an Np-28 (1911 in 9mm).

Can anyone that owns either of these care to comment on their performance good or bad? Things to watch out for?

I have both. They are full size double stack pistols. Nice, well built pistols for sure, but unless you have big mitts you will probably not appreciate them. I'm trying to trade mine off due to this very reason. Too big for my small hands.

Well I'm 6'1 and 250lbs so I've got decent sized hands :D

Could work well for you then.

I recommend the NP28 over the NP22. The NP28 comes stock with some of the little extras like extended slide release, flat mainspring housing, extended safety and is a very solid pistol.

The NP22, Hmmm... nothing to write home about. Slide is kind of sloppy, has an alloy frame. Don't need DA anyway, so it's the first to go.

I have the 1911, 226 and CZ75 clones (plus the real deal of each). After the Norcs got Trigger jobs, thay are just as good and just as accurate as the real deal.

I suggest the CZ75 clone. Solid steel - no alloys, or a single stack 45.

What gets done on a trigger job? Smoothing and polishing? How much did this set you back?

No idea but for an extra $100 ARMCO will sell you a Norinco 1911A1 with the trigger done :D

FWIW a trigger job can be done for cheap if you have a bench grinder and the right wheels. Unless you are one of those that think only Gunnar can improve a Norc.

They are good for what they are .. cheap copies and usually shoot quite well. There are better sidearms available in Canada.

My buddy has the sig clone and as far as I am concerned it is a POS. The 1911 would be my choice. Norinco got it right with that one. I have even considered selling my colt to buy two Norinco's.

Just a note Im only shooting the Norinco 1911s (Ive tweeked the crap out of them). As fas as the other models Sig clones and such YMMV

Hey Drache, I'm in Billy's puddle and I own a NP22. If you wanted to meet up at the range I could let you fondle it.

Might have to take you up on that offer. The closest to a Sig I've got to hold is a $800 airsoft version :p

The only real semi-auto handgun I got to hold (and use) was a Glock in Edmonton :D

$800!!! Does your buddy know that he could OWN a Sig for that price.
Airsoft, Pfttt....
