Just a quicky question, do all norinco's have a chrome barrel?

If so, and I fired 100 rounds two weeks ago (czech Surp / Corrosive) is my barrel ok?

I haven't cleaned her yet.

Thanks

Seth

Well move yer azz and clean it. Corrosive ammo when fired leaves a salt residue in the rifle, usually from the primer from what I understand. When the salt combines with moisture the rusting starts, so I am thinking that the amount of moisture in the air during the last 2 weeks would decide if it has already started to rust, and not just in your barrel.

Tuesday drop by the range, I'll give you that stock, and cleaning kit, for your SKS...

My VZ I did not clean it for a week after I shot it, I only had rust on my muzzle brake...

Also I'll give you a good sample of some bore cleaner....

Why not pop off the gas cylinder and see ?
It takes two seconds and if your worried about your rifle rusting it will happen there first usually .
You might also want to make sure the firing pin is loose before you shoot it again .

While the bore is chomed I am told that the chamber isn't, which is a pretty good reason to give it a cleaning lest you get pitting in the chamber and start to get difficulty with case extraction.

At the very least clean the gas cylinder, chamber and the bolt face. Wipe them down with windex, dry and oil. I also discovered on mine that you should wipe the area around the muzzle, since residue from firing will settle there and can start corrosion. While the bore should be okay, I have been told that not even the chrome bore is able to withstand the effects of corrosive salts longterm if left uncleaned, so don't store it away for weeks at a time without giving it a thorough cleaning.

With Regards,

Frank

Griffoneur has got it. Particularly important with corrosive ammo; cleaning your rifle should be a fixed part of your shooting ritual. Properly maintained firearms can last almost indefinitely.

Good advice to pop off the gas tube and clean at least this area. The piston and tube and the connection at the gas block will start to rust first, visible in 3 days(first hand account) Easy to do and will help when you're feeling lazy. But if you get this far you may as well clean the whole thing(soap, water, solvent, oil)

I routinely leave my firearms for a week or 2 uncleaned and still no problems yet ... Sometimes you get some red when you decide to clean them but it wipes away everytime ... Careful with the SKS's gas piston, it will tend to seize in the gas cylinder well before any visible signs of rust appear in the bore ...

Ok folks,

I broke down and cleaned her, the Gas piston was getting alittle rusty.

Thanks for the warnings, NOW I HAVE NON CORROSIVE ammo, HELLOOO LAZYNESS!

One time I went shooting corrosive and when i got home, i had to go out again... i got home too late to clean. I woke up at 0800 sunday morning to clean, and the oprod had surface rust forming less than 14 hours after shooting.
Needless to say, I learned my lesson, and am thankful it wasnt more severe.
