Norinco SKS - Bakelite/French tickler handguard preferable over wood?

Good luck. Hopefully SFRC is more accommodating than G4C.

This was G4C's response to my return request.

We understand that the SKS you received is not exactly the same as the one pictured on our website. Please note that the photos/images displayed on our website are the best representation of the product, but there may be slight variations between the product received and the images shown. This is because when we order from the supplier, we do not have the option to choose if the SKS will come with a bakelite handguard or not. It is all random and based on the availability of the product from the supplier.

We would like to clarify that the SKS you received, although it may not have the bakelite handguard, is still a newly produced model that may differ by a few years. Rest assured that it is of the same quality as the ones with the bakelite handguard.
We hope this clarifies things for you.

The rifle we sent to you is a highly valued one with full wood stock and matching number made in 1970s in best Chinese arsenal 26. The picture shows the 1990s plastic handguard type 56. You can also do some research online to confirm which is better. Usually, we pick higher value and better condition surplus for customers purchasing earlier.

I wasn't going for "higher value" I just wanted what was pictured.

there was a misinfo made by NS originally, they said the french tickler was made in the 90s but factory 26 stopped production of SKS in 1980, lol.
then they retracted it and said it was all made in the late 70s... indeed, mine had a french tickler made in factory 26 in 1979 with serial number in 23 mil. and its absolutely unissued and beautiful.
the only way another could be BETTER than mine is if its an unissued, early version made pre-mid 1965 in factory 26.
is yours from factory 26 and what serial number?

That's why I will never buy milsurp from dealers ever again, unless they specify exactly what you are getting or if it is dirt cheap. The story from G4C is made up of course, this is from the ones which came in before the last shipment. Old stock they knew nobody would buy in house, so they slipped this one (or maybe more) to unsuspected Internet buyers. The difference in value is around $50 to $100, buyers beware.

Did you order this one?

https://g4cgunstore.com/product/chi...-w-spike-bayonet-7-62x39mm-20-non-restricted/

Because you received that one:

https://g4cgunstore.com/product/chinese-sks-type-56-surplus-blade-bayonet-7-62x39mm-20-brl/

or that one:

https://g4cgunstore.com/product/chi...d-condition-w-spike-bayonet-7-62x39mm-20-brl/

or even that one:

https://g4cgunstore.com/product/chinese-sks-type-56-surplus-7-62x39mm-20-brl/

Ask them why they changed their stock picture and why you received the one which is supposedly sold out.

You should have read this also and clarify with them because in their description it says nothing about year/import etc.

You may want to be more careful next time too because they are also posting this and using it to their defense:

* STOCKS WILL BE PITTED, PAINT WILL BE DISCOLOURED OR FADED, METAL MAY HAVE MINOR RUST AND PITTING **Great for a build project** Some guns maybe refurbished with Russian stocks

edit: Just saw the sale from bullseye and interestingly, their picture shows the older Chinese SKS now. I wonder if there is a new shipment - but this should be made clear to buyers.

Same with the bbq bullsh*t sks’s, retailers advertising as new. Thanks for another retailer to ignore/not do business with. I expect stupidity from counter people but this is something else

Thats how most retailers work. Ship out the garbage and make it too much hassle to return so the customer shuts up

Yeah, I don't get it. For the margin they made on this one single SKS, they lost a lifetime of retail sales from myself and everyone that I will speak to.

I'm also taking more notice of the retailers that put excessive disclaimers on their product pages.

They just copy the disclaimer from the importer NS and ship random rifles out without even looking at them, except some still do it and offer handpick. That's all fine by me but the prices do not justify it, better wait for one on the EE where you can actually see what you are getting.

I’ve contacted sfrc to see if they’ll take it back. Fingers crossed.

Marcie emailed you this morning with a couple options for you. We wanted to check our remaining inventory to see what type they are. I appears the latest batch coming in now has a wooden handguard on top. My apologies for the issue, thank you for letting us know, we'll get the pictures changed for the when more come in.

Hmm...if you collect them,I would think you would be happy to add one to the collection as a slight variation...on the other hand..they will shoot about the same as any other sks out there...
