Norinco SKS Question

I'm going to look at a norinco sks this weekend and was wondering about a few things to look for.

First, how do you tell without taking it apart if it's a threaded barrel or not?
Next, is there a serial# range that they started producing these without the threaded barrels?

firstly, welcome and have fun shopping this weekend .

secondly, yes, you can see whether the barrel is threaded or not, look for a lug or a shoulder against the receiver.

thirdly, cant go by serial numbers cos there were approx 30 factories producing sks and not all factory coordinated with each other.
