Hey Everyone,

I'm looking a possibly picking up a Norico SKS but I have a few questions about them.

1. When buying a Norinco SKS from Marstar and they new or have they been previously fired?

2. Does anyone know when Marstar will be getting more SKS in stock?

3. How good of a gun are they?

4. Would a 7.62X39 round be good enough to hunt deer?

5. Are there other places to buy a Norinco SKS?

6. Is there anyone out there other than Marstar that sell new SKS?

Thanks for all the help

1. Ask Marstar
2. Ask Marstar
3. Good for wasting ammo and having a jolly good time.
4. I wouldn't hunt with this gun, not with corrosive ammo anyways, buy an M14 if you like to hunt nostalgic.
5. Check out the sponsors at the top of the page.
6. See #5

1. Don't know.
2. Don't know.
3. For the money - an excellent value.
4. Yes.
5. Last time I looked, yes.
6. Last time I looked, yes.

Power is about the same as 30-30.

Modern deer are much tougher than they used to be, so this may no longer have enough power, except for fawns.

I have had excellent service from Marstar.

You can order a SKS from Frontier or SIR. They will be getting a big shipment any year now.

I put a peep sight on my Norico SKS and get very good results and lots of fum.

4. Would a 7.62X39 round be good enough to hunt deer?

I don't think I have ever seen marstar with SKS's in stock, and I've been checking their website since oct 2006.

I got my norinco SKS from frontier firearms I believe... It was either that or it was milarm.. I can't remember.

I picked up my Yugo M59 from Marstar in 2004. At the time they also had Norinco's in stock as well.

7.62x39 soft point 153gr kicks deer ass every time

Did you mean 123 grain?

If you find a place with a few SKS's in stock, take a good look at them, you'll frequently find surplus PLA rifles mixed in. Check some of the SKS sites so you have an idea of what's what. An early PLA rifle is vastly superior to a new production unit.

I know & witnessed guys who have shoot and killed moose with 7.62x39 using a SKS ... if they can kill a bull, then a buck wouldn't stand a chance ... as for the rest of your questions ... I am waiting on them to fill their orders for sks's as well.

CURTTON: "marstar is waiting for their order to be filled , they are waiting for them to made/assembled ." This is news to me....

"john doesnt know when they are gonna get any . they been sold out for the past 3 years , IIRC."

John

TO ALL WHO HAVE ASKED; Our customers that we do not promise items not in stock or at least on the water coming to us....

Others may do it but it only ends up making problems and frustrating a lot of people....

John

my info came from one of your staff quoated indirectly as of 7 weeks ago (see below), its the last known info i have on the $139 SKS , ofcos you being the boss would know more . your staff gave an ETA 6 months to a year . IMHO, a range of 6 months isnt much to go by.

if you know when you are getting them then that is good news . :)

I emailed them a few weeks back, was told the Norincos (SKS) ETA was at least 6 months to a year. Here is the quote (Oct. 21 2008):

*SORRY NONE ARE CURRENTLY PRODUCE ....WILL BRING THEM IN ASAP ....ETA=6 MONTHS TO A YEAR .THANK YOU !! *

IMHO "available" should be classified as cleared inspection with Canada Customs, and on a truck heading to the store. :)
