I'm currently shopping around for an SKS and see quite a few Norinco made ones. How do these compare to ones made for military use? Any help would be appreciated.

Military use? By that do you mean the Russian/Yugo models? A lot of SKS are refurb models, I own a Tula SKS, the Norinco SKS's aren't as pretty as the Russian models, however some people have had great success with their's. I have also read other Norinco SKS's turned out to be lemons.

thanks for the quick reply, and yes, that's what I meant, from various russian factories or the chinese ones on sale by marstar. From what I've read trawling the forums, the opinions do seem fairly varied.

In the end it is up to you, I picked up my Russian SKS for $185 at Le Baron, look around there are loads of SKS's out there, have a look on the Equipment Exchange

In general, Giroux, the workmanship on the Russian SKS's seems a bit better than the Chinese. A couple of guys I know had their extractors break on their SKS's, and they were both Chinese rifles.

On wolverine supply. They in the same province, so I was thinking of buying from them, but if the marstar's rifles are better...

norinco is an exporting company , it doesnt tell me what they exported but according to wolverine site, they say their norinco SKS are chinese military SKS, that would be the same as marstar chinese military SKS.

The Marstar offerings are new Chinese military SKS - fine guns, possibly slightly lower quality than a Russian, and not really collectible so Bubba can go hog wild.

Norinco did make some commercial variant SKSs (farmer's friend, etc), they are considered by many to be the lowest grade SKS out there.

yeah, I looked into it and (not to contradict curtton) but Norinco does seem to be a producer, not just an exporter, and I've heard good things of marstar's offerings.

the name norinco on the side of the rifle doesnt indicate they made it , it just mean they had it made by another factory.
