I'm looking for a new compact 22 LR I've found a Norinco JW15A .22 with a 13" barrel and I believe Stevens 305 is also a bolt action 13" barrel. The Norinco action looks similar to my Brno. Anyone have a opinion on these little plinkers ?

I have the Norinco, and really like it. It's cheaply made, and the factory 10-round mag mine came with is pure rubbish, but I paid $175 for mine gently used. Bought a couple of CZ 5-rounders and mounted a minty, old 3x scopechief~life is good. :)

My avatar blown-up;

I've put more ammo. through this gun in the last year than all the other combined. Not sure if it's a tolerance thing, but it get's dirty quick...so it gets a light cleaning after every outing too. My Savages have never been like that.

:agree: with .22LRGUY there is a member on this board who still owe's me a steak dinner cuz of this rifle. Also the design is a direct copy of the CZ and the trigger job litterly is to ubwind a set screw and polish the rough machining marks. Great plinker if you want I'll show you how tricked out mine is with everything from a custom bolt to a beded stock. I am how every think of sending it to Arma-Coat cuz these rifles don't have that great of finish but for the price who cares!

I have the Norinco.
It's cheap, it's fun and it's suprisingly accurate with the crummy iron sights.
I've got an NEG rimfire peep I haven't got around to installing yet but that should improve the sight situation.
I'm a lucky one I guess 'cause my Norinco mag functions perfectly but I have about 6 CZ ones too. Just in case. ;)
Might take it grouse hunting this fall.
Buy one, you'll like it. :D

I have the Stevens 305F in .22 Mag.
This is a fun little rifle to shoot and is accurate when properly set up.
I,ve tuned the trigger to a crisp 3lb. and have a Boyd's laminate stock
coming in the mail as well as an EGW picatinny rail mount.
I'll mount my Bushnell Holo-Sight on it and use it for busting grey squirrels.
Though I have'nt examined the Norinco shorty, I'm sure it would be as good
a shooter as the Stevens when properly set up.
It all boils down to personal preference.

Badger and Moregunssupply has them in stock I believe, if you mean the shorty Norincos.

I can comment on the action, it's a CZ BRNO clone. It has an amazing rate of fire for a bolt and cycles like a dream. You can treat it harshly, like how you'd cycle an Enfield, and it never complains.

Thanks for all the replies you guy's. I think I like the Norinco the best. I would love to see what you have done to yours !!! If you are thinking about recoating yours have a look at this video on utube. http://www.youtube.com/user/pittsky#p/u/1/3q9YYy3O3m8 I think he is a member here if I remember right. I know I'm going to try it when I get mine. Another reason I like this little rifle is because if it's half the rifle as my #3 and #4 Brno I couldn't go wrong. The action on those rifles are smooth as warm butter.

Yep got a check riser on it. Not just for the optic but it also holds 3(50 round packs of ammo) perfectly & handy too. Plus also some other handy tool shown on the next photo.

Thaz right! It's a survial knife & anyone who know that grose know that it is always handy to have a knife handy to keep the wings for id with the C.O. Plus who knows when you might get hungry and need to start a fire to cook some fresh birds up or maybe you struck out and need to go fishing.

I opted for the 5 round flush mag and dremiled off the edges. As the first time I poped it out it cut my soft hands. Also check out that knob just the perfect distance for us adults. Also you can never go wrong with the sling that I chose. Actually it is the same 1 for my M14. As I plan only to shoot this rifle in the standing position & it's pure money ;)

There is that big custom bolt knob and I used polishing compound to all moving parts. It removed the machining marks really turns this rifle from a meat grinder to a velvitly smooth pureator! And yes it does nicley clear that optic ;)

The hooded front sight post is nice addition when shooting during sunny daylight times or humping around the back woods looking for apitizers but I find it lacking at twilight hours or plinking from under cover at the range. Although that palm swell is worth it's wieght in gold in my opinoin.

I also enjoy the fact that there are engravings made to the buttstock to prevent sliping while it is sholdered.

The optic I picked was a Vector 2-6x28 illuminated mil-dot on dovetail rings that came with the scope.

As you can barely see here that the rings are just enough to alow you to still use the iron sight.

Hope this pictorl helps ya out and I'll start the offers at $350 :p

I've noticed a couple of you guys saying you will be using his bad boy to squirrel or grouse this coming season. Has anyone actually used this rifle for that yet? Just wondering on accuracy as I am looking for a new squirrel rifle and the more compact the better.

I've never used mine to hunt anything, but I posted this photo a while back from when I was zeroing the scope;

The shots in the yellow were from trying to get the Norinco to like my Federal Gold Medal Target. (my Anschutz loves it) Anyhow, no dice. Then I tried CCI Subsonic HP and WOW, did the Norinco like this stuff! http://www.cci-ammunition.com/products/detail.aspx?use=2&loadNo=0056 So, working left to right, I shot once...then tried to hit the same hole with each of 2 following shots. End result~ragged hole. It was never my intention to make this rifle a 100 yard paper puncher, hence, the 3x scope. However, anything I want to hit under 50 yards GETS hit on the first shot. I have placed clay pigeons on stands out to about 100 yards and hit them on every shot off a rest. For a plinker with a predictably creepy trigger, I'm 100% satisfied.
