Norinco surplus ammo

After going through 1000 round case I would say it shoots ok, speaking of accuracy wise. I never had a failure to fire or anything along the line of that. Its a dirty ammo also. I think the longest time I went without cleaning my socom 18 was 400-500 rounds, and it would of easily took the hole case. I got maybe 6 inch groups with the ammo and I get around 3 inch groups with American eagle. I think is a good ammo for the price and I will be buying more again.

I've only gone through 200 rounds of the stuff, but i'd say it's average. 5 inch groups @ 100 yds was the norm, but I'd clean my gun the same day after a shoot with the stuff because it is fairly dirty. Just buy a case lol

Oh, I have two cases stored away. Just working thru other stuff first. Figure when I get to the Norc it would be good to know what to expect.

I have run several crates of it through m305 and Remington 700 without ever having a single issue I can blame on the ammo.

It's cheap plinking ammo, it won't win any competitions. The cases feel gritty, I wouldn't let it anywhere near a match chamber

Now that it has been out for a while I thought I'd ask what people's impressions are of the Norc surplus 7.62x51 (.308) stuff - what's the verdict ?

I tried some and it shot fine. I then took a bullet and put it in the milling machine. I found that the copper wash was a too thin to measure. The rest of the bullet was steel with the inner core of approx 1/8" was lead. If you wish to remove the rifling in your barrel keep using this ammo. Its basically steel on steel.

I have had a decent experience with this ammo, my rifle seems to like it, I get about 3 MOA at 100 yrds, it is a bit dirty, but then again my norky is no match rifle so no big deal, when I run too low I will be snagging up another case

After 2000x rounds of it through an M305 observations would include:

  1. Goes bang 100% of the time for me so far, however...(see #2)
  2. Gritty cases gave me the only failure to feed(s) I've ever had with this rifle/mags, and I've shot about 8x other brands of FMJ & Hunting ammo with this rifle. I think it happened about 10x times in 2000x rounds, which feels like a lot.
  3. Decent accuracy, grouped almost the same for me as S&B 147grain
  4. Feels a little hot, which is ok by me
  5. If it were about 25% less expensive I'd have 2x or 3x cases sitting in my gun room instead of only 1x

I've been tempted tumbling a full case in brass cleaning medium to see if the gritty cases have anything to do with the failure to feeds. Problem would be, even if all 1000x then fed properly, you still might not know if it was the gritty cases or not.

I don't think I'd shoot it out of my new and beloved Rem700 SPS, but until I'm setup to reload it's pretty much all my M305's will see...oh surplus ammo, why did you have to die so young?
