Norinco T97 Left Handed Shooter

+1
A non issue with the FAMAS if used correctly. But I did burn my cheek and neck (and lost some hearing points) while clearing buildings and not shouldering the rifle properly because of the plates. As a military rifle, nothing is wrong with left or right ejection: like the noise, you notice that only afterward. As a range gun, not so much.

Funny how I miss this ugly piece of plastic now that I can't own one.

that s why this one is interesting me as non restricted ....

I just picked one up today, I like it. It did not take very long for it to grow on me.
But I'm a south paw and although I have not fired it yet, the ejection port is not very far from my eye's when I shoulder the rifle.
This is my first bull pup and I must say I like it, I guess maybe a Tavor with left side ejector is in my future now.
If anybody has any info on a left handed ejector/deflector uprade for the T97 please let me know

My wife fired mine lefty and just "choked back" on the cheek weld so the brass cleared but after a couple of rounds handed it back. She wasn't a fan of the gasses still exiting right into her face. A buddy fired it at the range one day and forgot to adjust his cheek weld back and caught the casing from his first shot in the lip resulting in a nice little gash. He didn't take a second shot. With some kind of brass / gas deflector it might be ok but as much as it pains me to say, lefties should try to fire one before buying to avoid disappointment though YMMV. Hopefully t97.ca have something up their sleeves to get a left-side ejection happening since that would make it a good option for sub-$1k black rifle fans.

I'm a lefty, but the gun isn't. I'm also left eye dominant. So, I shoot it 'offhand'. Since this isn't a Sniper rifle, it seemed worthwhile to try.
Interestingly enough, it wasn't hard to adjust to the right hand, right eye shooting at 50m. Kind of cool, actually. It'd be great for a "Shoot til empty, drop on the sling and draw the pistol with your left" type of deal.
(If I had to go out to 100m though, the safest place to stand would probably be directly in front of me. :p )

i tried shooting one left handed (i'm right handed but shooting weak side is important) at least with the one i got to handle there's no worry of getting hit by brass, and i didn't notice any gas blowing into my face. The tavor slaps me in the chin fairly regularly, but out of the 40 or so rounds i got to put through that t97, not a single one hit me.

Something to consider after shooting it from both sides. I shoot dirty Norinco 556 milsurp and it is waaaay stinkier shooting left than right. I have a cheek riser because it's a scoped so nothing comes close to hitting me even shooting left. But I still avoid it because of the gases. It's is a noticeably stronger odor even outdoors. Maybe I should slow my rate of fire ... or shoot cleaner ammo ... lol :D ...

It's nice that you can set the gas to zero though and eject manually if you're worried about brass hitting you in the face. Kinda takes the fun outta a semi-auto though ...

Deckard was going to make some kind of face shield for you left handed weirdo's....I think this was his prototype:D:

Seriously, I think he had a shell deflector design in mind that he thought would work well. Not sure how far he got with it.
bwahahahaha......

So is anyone aware of anything? Or where a guy can get the previously mentioned type 88 deflector? Or a deflector for another rifle that is similar enough and could be modified? I've shot plenty left handed, and never took one to the face, but I have to keep my head a little further back than I would firing any other rifle, and it's probably just a matter of time before I forget, and go into the more comfortable lip busting position, haha.
