I'm personally expecting spring time approval.... In 2014.

I would go ahead and buy the ar pieces.

Based on the information that I have, I'd expect summer of 2014. Wanstalls muddied the water a bit by posting that an FRT has already been issued, even though I don't expect for that for another year or so. Yeah, worst case scenario, I can sell any surplus accessories and we should know more by the time that the 14.5" Norcs get to Vancouver ;)

I gave up on this earlier this week and bought a CSA vz 58 instead.

Shovel, check. ABS piping, check. Cosmo, check. Tarp, check.. Yep.. I think we're ready, but I'd be more worried about the moderate right than the socialists when it comes to gun bans ;)

Because handgun and semi-auto bans aren't part of the the liberal, ndp, green and bq party platforms, right?

That's why I mentioned the Liberals - on a grand scheme of things they're moderate right. NDP is the closest party approaching socialism, but not all there because they have to cater to the dumb hipster crowd. With that being said, a good chunk of their voter base is rural, including hunters and people who have to defend their land from predators, so they have to do pull a balancing act. Green is somewhere between them and the fiberals and BQ.. They're Quebec's problem. Here's a short video clip from one of the most socialist countries on our planet:

The CPC are barely right of center.
