Norinco tokarov KB???

The markings on Teapots are way nicer than my roommates 54-1 (safety)
His markings look like they barely etched on and some of them have a line etched over them. Got it from lever arms.
Anyone know anything about why his marking have lines etched through some of them?

It does not say norinco anywhere on the gun. KSI seems to be an importer in the US. I wonder if this is recent or if its from a really old batch.

His says "made in china" "KSI Pomona CA". "GRE L.A CA" are the letters etched over with 3 horizontal lines stacked vertically.

Serial looks like 1406###X

also marked MOD. 54-1

Anything could be overloaded and blown up. Once I’ve found that guy managed to blow up Winchester M70 bolt action rifle in 22 Hornet. Still hard to believe but if you put enough of fast burning powder, once pressure reaches metal’s ultimate strength, there is nothing that will stop firearm from flying apart.

As for Tokarevs, later ones are among strongest pistols ever made. See here how strong Tokarev is; http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26582 . Double amount of powder used in 357 in a smaller case. The pressure must be higher than proof load for Weatherby rifles.

Hey I got my roomate a norinco type 54-1 from lever for xmas. But a local gun smith said that these are unsafe pistols.
I call BS. Did the local gunsmith offer to sell you a safe pistol?

Yes. I had one with the same markings. The M54-1's that Lever sells were apperantly intended for sale in California. That is why they were modified with the manual safety to comply with US import regulations, and marked with the importers names and locations. For whatever reason, they wound up in Vancouver instead. It's not clear when the US importers marks were overstruck with the series of three horizontal lines - appearantly with a dot-type electro-engraver, but it's pretty clear that they have moved around and been in storage for a fairly long time.

The Marstar M54's are more recent manufacture and exhibit better over all condition and finishing, as well as not being burdened with the manual safety of the M54-1.

The smith didn't offer to sell my room mate anything. He just said he doesn't carry the ammo for it or even check them over for people anymore to make sure they are safe. Just because of all the problems he says he's seen with their safety in the past. I half wonder if he meant the makarov or something similar. Too bad I wasn't there at the time. Coulda asked some more probing questions, like what mods he's talking about, when this happened, ammo etc.

I'll just order mine from Marstar once I get the missing part from my last order. I looked at tea pots and his looked way better than the lever arms one.

Also one final thing too, The 7.62mm barrel is really rough on the lands near the chamber, rough and bumpy. Anyone else's ever have that? He should at least get the barrel replaced probly.

If it's a Lever Arms gun, I don't think it can be returned, or at least for rough lands in the barrel. They will likely smooth out some with use, and can be lapped if it really bugs him. These aren't all that accurate to start with, so the effort would probably be futile.

Sounds like a story that grew and changed over time. The guy who lost an eye or at least severely injured it (at Burke Mountain) was apparently shooting Tokarev ammo, but in a Broomhandle Mauser. And that's a NO-NO!

Funny how these stories evolve...

And, hey, mine's still second-hand, so who know?

BTW, I have also never come across a KaBoomed Tokarev, Norinco or other wise. As much as I feel they are truly a $150 gun, they seem to be plenty strong :)
