I have a Norinco TU-33/40 rifle, a sort-of Mauser fake .22 trainer. The rifle has a rail on the left side for a side mounted scope - anyone know where one could obtain a mount to fit this rail?

You can't. They came with the rifles when they were new and are not available separate. You may find one on eBay someday.

Thanks for the reply and the photos - that's the first time I've had a good look at that mount. It looks pretty sturdy! What type of scope is that?

The local dealer(s) sold quite a few of these things a few years ago, I think they were brought in by BELL. To the best of my knowledge none of the rifles sold around here ever had scope mounts with them, it must have been an extra cost item. One local guy had a side mount made up out of aluminum, it worked but did not look as appropriate as the real thing.

The scope actually came with the rifle when it was new. Perhaps it came in a "deluxe" package. No one, incidentally, knows when these rifles were first made for sure.

While the scope looks nice, it is a terrible scope. Most people report that it won't hold zero and I can attest that it is not a good scope. The mount will accept any 1" scope however, so it's not all bad.

It is quite chunky and sturdy!

I've been doing some more reading and apparently the scope equipped version of these rifles were sold in the U.S. by Navy Arms as the "TU-KKW Sniper Trainer". I would hazard a guess that the rifles sold in Canada were originally destined for the US but refused entry due to Bill Clinton's Chinese gun ban - they couldn't sell them down there so they were brought here instead.

The few I've seen have New Jersey markings on them. I'm not sure when these markings get applied but that could make sense.
