Norinco Type 54 worth the $150?

X2 How does it help with grip angle?

NorcTok was the first handgun I bought. Back then there were tonnes of Norc non-corrosive ammo sitting on Lever's floor. This gun kicks ass. If you practice enough, it gives you very reasonable accuracy. Some people will brag about the grip angle, but I've never found it to be a problem. I still miss the long muzzle flame and the loud BANG! But when I look into the ammo box, I just have to hold myself back from bringing it to the range. :D

SKS man sells the tokagypt grips for 25$. I have both M201C Improved 9mm and a type 54. Both are lots o' fun. I'll probably put the tokagypt grips on the type 54 eventually, but I don't actually mind the angle and I like how slim it is compared to the 9mm's grips. The 9mm wears a Hogue hand all.

Not a great pic, but...

So yeah, In my view totally worth it! :D

I have just sent away to get my PAL upgraded to restricted and will hopefully soon be able to buy my first pistol.
I know a lot of people like to try and ridicule Norinco fireams and that they can be a bit rough around the edges, and strange as it may sound that is part of the attraction to me. I can honestly say that I don't want a refined handgun, I want one that's tough and made to do a job. My dilema is that I can't make up my mind between a Norc 1911 and a Norc Tokarev. I have always wanted a 1911, but I find myself being more and more attracted to the 7.62x25mm Tokarevs even though I think they look a bit ugly. They sound like a lot of fun, and at the end of the day that's what it's all about.

What's the best ammo for a big bang and flame ?

You are thinking of the CZ-52, which does explode because of weak chamber walls. The TT-33 does not explode. It is built stronger than is necessary.

hmm yeah that might be what it was, I remember I came across a forum that was discussing both.

OK, I doubt you're going to want to fire much 9mm thru your Tok. Get a separate pistol for that (we could point you towards some good value Norks)...you could mix and match the $150 Tok from Lever with 2,280 rounds of 7.62x25 from Marstar ($238.50 inc. tax + shipping). Lever's price for the same ammo is $333.35 inc. tax, and it won't be $100 shipping from ON, so you're ahead there. Lots of ammo to keep you happy for a long time :)

Yeah, that sounds good, and is what I was thinking about doing, getting the gun from lever and ordering ammo. But I don't know, maybe I'll get the gun and ammo from marstar. You were also right, I don't have much intention of firing 9mm through it, and I'll get a separate gun for 9mm PM me with some good Norks if you get a moment.

thanks.

hmm by the end of the summer, I'm gonna look like a communist, a nagant , a tok and ammo coming out my ass.:runaway:

did all communists look like that????????? they sound better than the Liberals, at least you'd be able to talk guns with 'em. Seriously though I'm tempted to buy one..... I mean really a handgun and ammo for a couple of hundred bucks. They're like the SKS, there's no excuse for not having one.

Also they are fun to shoot. :D
Like I mentioned, my only complaint so far are the sights.
If I ever found a Hi viz sight upgrade kit for one of these I'd go for it. :)

I just bought the Norc off the E.E. (still waiting on the Ont. CFO :( ).
Never had any experience with one... but figured for that amount of cash, I couldn't wrong! :dancingbanana:
Thanks for this thread! Making me very happy I jumped at it when it came up!! :D

I have the 54-1 combo and I like it. A great deal for a fun to shoot gun - not especially accurate, but tolerable. All the complaints about the safety seems to be just repeating what others have said - to me it's a non-issue.

The gun is very strong - I have rechambered mine to 38 Super and have shot 125gr loads at 1400 fps.

Haha pretty much eh, cheap as hell and fun, I'm not exactly expecting the tok to be some excellent marksman pistol, I wouldn't expect the SKS to be accurate as hell either but if I can have fun with it at the range for .10 cents per round, right now thats all I'm looking for in a handgun, since there isn't really anything else you can do with them in Canada, and if the "OMG HANDGUNS BOUGHT FROM STORES ARE BAD" bandwagon gets their way, we aren't gonna have them anymore. So I'd like to get one before there is a ban.

I really wish they would take the time to realize that handguns used in crimes are illegally purchased ones, I mean even the Vancouver police had an article a while back in the Vancouver sun pretty much saying, banning handguns is just going to piss off responsible shooters.
