Can anyone direct me to where I can obtain a bolt-head (the part that houses the firing pin and extractor) for a Norinco Type 97 rifle. - see circled in attached image

I'm not actually sure if this is for sure the correct part in the picture since mine is missing from a newly acquired (used) rifle and I've never actually seen one, but I do know that whatever contains the firing pin and extractor is missing and there is an empty hole in the Bolt Body (item #5) where it should go

My rifle would likely be much more interesting to take to the range if I had this part

Any suggestions?

TIA,

DT

Here's my suggestion, send it back to who ever you bought it from and get your money back.

That's the first thing I would do as well!

You might be able to get a part from North Sylva, or possibly one of the other T97 retailers who frequent these threads (do a search).

Option A. Return T97 and get money back.

Option B. Contact North Sylva in hopes they havesaid part.

Option C. If a or b dont work out, find sombody with a t 97 that will let you borrow that part and get a machine shop to make you one.

Option C will cost him more than buying a new T97

How the heck did the original owner lose that???

Unless the original owner specifically sold you that gun CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP and you knew it was missing the bolt, I would want my $$$ back!!!

Cheers

That is insane... Give North Sylva a call though - I would think they would have a few spare parts kicking around. Post back here how you make out. If they have parts, I might pick up some spares.

I'd like to hear from North Sylva about their support for the products they import.

Who's the authorized repair person and do they, or anyone else for that matter, have access to parts?

I sent the following e-mail to North Sylva;

I have a Norinco Type 97 rifle that is missing the bolt - the part that contains the firing pin and extractor.

The bolt (bolt head?) Item number 9 in picture (see link) was lost when it was removed and stored separate from the rifle

I would really like to purchase a replacement bolt as without it, obviously, my rifle is completely useless!

Would you be able to supply a new or used bolt for this rifle, and if so, how much and when could it be made available?

Please and thank you!

and very quickly received the following response;

Hi John. I do have a bolt assembly liberated from a rifle we are using for parts (New), but here is the possible issue. The bolt is serialized to match the rifle.

In Canada, it doesn't matter about the serial number, as long as your rifle is serialized, but the bolt assembly may be specifically set up to match the specific rifle for headspace, and fits and clearances.

All that said, I have no problem selling you this bolt assembly (with firing pin and extractor), but I can't give any guarantee that it will be a drop in part, or that it will function properly in your rifle. I can suggest that you send it in to us and our smith can install it, check it, and test fire it.

Please advise,

Sincerely,

George Wedge

I have to commend North Sylva for their prompt response and of course I am very pleased that they have a bolt for my rifle!

I chose to purchase the bolt and try it out in hopes that it will operate as is, but if not I will send my rifle and the bolt to North Sylva for fitting.

I hope to have it soon and try it out!

That was a great response from North S. I purchased a second 97 to leave in the safe for parts after finding how much I liked the original after installing the FTU. Hope I never need help from North Silva, but nice to know they are responsive!
