Norinco type D sks? Russian Sks?

the restricted models use surplus chrome lined barrels, but the non-restricted barrels are bare steel. Rauch Tactical can fix that and the strange paint they come wrapped in for a good price. As far as "needing to be cleaned more extensively", oiled steel doesnt rust. A proper cleanign and oiling after each trip has kept my sks's clean and rust free

I will strongly disagree with you as you have no idea were they coming from. BJS7293 price aside quality wise it is not the same at all. Mechanism is the same but "mileage" is different. :)
The SKS's that are sold today are basically all the same, does not matter what dealer you buy from. Some look better than others but thats about it.
The best way to find the SKS for you is find a store front gun shop that sells SKS's and pick your own, if looks matter to you keeping in mind the price points. To access EE you have to register, see FAQ.

About the only thing basically the same about the SKSs for sale these days is that they are either Russian or Chinese. Other than that there are differences.

I would say that 95% of the people that are asking question on CGN are people that just want a cheap rifle to shoot, no more and no less. You tell me and the other people on CGN what those differences are that would really make a difference to the average SKS shooter.

I buy SKSs to collect not shoot,so I'll defer to you,the self proclaimed CGN SKS Expert on this matter.

I bought an sks from west rifle, it is far better than any other sks that I have seen. When he says quality I think he knows what he is talking about.

Most certainly in the fit and finish spanning the years and depending on country of origin.

Probably the same people that are going to drop the rifle into a plastic stock and then ruin the barrel harmonics by mounting a cheap bayonet attached bipod, or mount a receiver cover scope, and then whine about the accuracy issues. :D
