Norinco YL-12 Shotgun

When they first came out, the stories abounded about them being a piece of junk. Jamming, stiff, not in spec etc. I think the original importer got more than a few of them back, although that is hearsay.

Have they improved since?

Who knows?

I believe they are the same gun, made in the same plant (Chon Dong machine works) as the Stevens 350. Could be wrong about that.

Possibly they've been improved to be able to be sold under that name.

One thing you do read over and over is that they need to be disassembled and thoroughly cleaned out of grease etc, polished etc.

Does anyone know if these would accept an Ithaca left handed safety?
Apparently you can't just take apart the trigger assembly and flip it around.

Searching the internet for answers has lead me nowhere.

The Norinco YL-12 Shotgun was my first shotgun a very long time ago.

I overpaid for a used one at a farmers gun show because I didnt do my homework on it.

I was then sadly disappointed with the performance of it at the gun club. It FTE the shells on a regular basis.

I now own a Ithaca M37 and never looked back.

If its your first shotgun - I would not purchase it due to lack of spares and support.

If you like bottom ejecting shotguns check into the Savage/Stevens P350 Pump Security shotgun as well.

I have a Norinco (rem 870 clone, with folder) and have puts lots of rounds through it without issue. Solid, feeds, ejects, finish is good. It feels a little rough when you cycle, compared to my Remington, but works great. I don't know about the Ithaca clones though...

One of these...

I doubt anyone has tried, but I have been told that Ithaca parts do not fit. The Norcs are metric and Ithaca is inch pattern.
I would assume the ithaca stocks and foregrips would interchange no? I just bought one from can am and the only thing I don't really like is the furniture. I'd also like to put a bead sight on it and ditch the rifle sights

This shotgun is acceptable for a norinco product. A surprisingly smooth action, not too badly covered in oil, and functions acceptably ( no long shooting sessions however yet). If your left handed on a budget this is an option that would work. If you buy it the instructions are useless, but just pull the for-end to the rear, allow the barrel to be fully inserted(top sight 90 degrees to right), then twist vertical, and loosen the mag tube end cap to secure barrel.
The last step took me a few minutes of tinkering since I have never taken the barrel off of my other shotguns.
