Nork14 + ARMS#18 -> Which rings are you running?

I have one of the beloved Norinco M-14s rifles with an ARMS#18 mount.

So far I've had my rifle out with an Armalite one-piece mount (the kind Armalite ships with their AR15's) and a Bushnell 3200 10x.

This worked well enough for testing. The height was good but it looked a bit goofy. (I had to mount it backwards.) Unfortunately about one in 20 rounds ejected such that the case got hung up under the lip of the mount. The Armalite mount has got to go (back on my AR).

I may keep the Bushnell scope, or may pick up one of the popular Falcon Optics units. Anyway...

What rings do you run with your M-14 and ARMS#18? How do you like them?

I would like to hear your experiences and opinions.

i like the arms with medium rings as i run a 50mm objective lense scope,

i also had a few cases get trapped by the oprod between it and the mount. After trimming 2 coils from my extractor spring detent..... I have several hundred rounds down range since and no trapped cases.
your mileage may vary.

the arms is my favorite m14 mount, but it's a matter of opinion once you level the field and compare it to other tried and true mounts like sadlak or smith enterprise. The three mounts are tried and true and generally accepted as the best options for mounting to the m14...... The basset was quite popular but i am not seeing recent comments on that mount.

there is some info through the scope mount FAQ ssticky i think..... but a while back this topic was discussed as well.
I did not cut the extractor sping in an effort to solve this problem.... I did it because the spring was too long making reassembly of the stripped bolt ecessively difficult.
it was the next trip to the range that i realized that the rifle no longer stove piped a round between the oprod and mount. trajectory of the ejected brass was more horizontal and to the side than up at an angle and forward ....

I think in some rifles where the barrel indexing is off just a hair to the left , and the oprod guide is tight with no play, thus creating upward twist in the oprod , this brass capture may be more prevalent...... but i'm not going to say it's a definate cause.
extractor spring may be the ticket..... so you disassemble the bolt, carefully cut 2 coils off your stock norc extractor detent and while yer at it, cut 3 coils off your ejector spring as well. these are common mods that have been practiced for many years with these chinese bolt inards.

The other solution i have seen is to shave some material off the ARMS mount at the casing contact point. I personally have not performed this modification and non of my clients/friends having arms mounts installed have had an issue to date that i am aware of..... with the exception of Katana(i think) ..... and he opted to instal a smith ent mount.

ARMS18 is the lowest of the low...... and for the 200 n change they go for at places like wolverine and P&D ...... i still advocate them as the best bang for your buck.
