Norma branded Oryx 7x57 ammo, good for whitetail and black bear?

Just wondering if any you have used Norma Oryx on medium game?

I have used Oryx ammo on game a few times to harvest brass, and it has always been excellent... the bullets hold together nicely, as testified by the exit holes... I have never recovered a bullet. The internal damage is sufficient but not excessive... just right for deer and up game.

They are bonded, but what I would call "soft bonded," as the soft lead nose peels back easily enough on relatively light whitetails... judging from the exits holes they expanded and stayed together.

I've shot a few head of game, mostly Deer, including a nice Samber stag and a couple G2 hybrids elk/red deer crosses Bulls, with the Norma oryx in my M70 7x57 in New Zealand, no bullets recovered, but clean kills, and complete, shoulder to shoulder pass threes,
My only complaint is it's cost, quality boned bullet in my view.

Thanks. Ordered a few boxes several years ago for the brass, thinking it's probably reliable stuff. I also have a few boxes of RWS "power bonded" to try as well. Expensive stuff.

I used some factory oryx when I took my bison. One recovered bullet, held together well even after hitting heavy bone.

I use the 196 Oryx in my 325 WSM. Deadly bullet that is tougher than one might think.
Stays together well, expands nicely by the look of exits. No recovered bullets yet though.
Dave.

ive used the oryx bullet on two deer a few years ago in 300 weatherby. first one was a frontal head shot and blew the cap off completly. instant drop no bullet recovered .another shot was at a doe 60 yards, shoulder shot ..she moved, bone everywhere ,incuding bone embeded in a tree .complete pass through blood trail looked like a pail thrown all over trail a blind man could follow about 70 yards . small hole in large gaping hole out, pretty explosive, there was not a drop of blood left in deer..load was factory ammo.tried the vulcan after ,very explosive in 300 weatherby... my brother took the rifle and ammo after he saw it shoot.. he hunts pigs in florida with it and only uses the oryx ammo.

Here is a 156gr 6.5 Oryx, from a moose - 6.5 PRC - 324yd - hit bone, held together, great expansion, did exactly what it should have - I wouldn't hesitate to use these.
It's one of the more common large critter bullets in 6.5/7mm on the other side of the pond.

perfect, they also say a 30-30 is good medicine for those, an im a bigger fan of the little 7s than the 30-30,although admittedly its only a small margin lol.

oryx is good for all game with suited weights!

Still sitting on nearly 200 rounds of it. Personally I would trust it on pretty much anything on four legs in North America. Shoots great, probably already used a few hundred on steel and paper, along with the rws probably the best hunting stuff you are going to find in a factory load.

Thanks to your feedback, I ordered two boxes of 8x57 196gr Oryx ammo from Tradex to try with my new CZ 557 Lux 2. It should work with some authority!

I have used Oryx bullets with perfect satisfaction in several calibers. They are my #1 pick for use in most of my big game rifles. I have always had quick expansion, deep penetration, bullet held together even when heavy bone was hit. The few recovered were all over 80% weight retained. Mushrooms are usually double caliber diameter. I have used Norma Oryx to take Mule deer, Whitetail, Moose, Elk, Black bears, Oryx (Gemsbok), Kudu, and Giraffe. In in my opinion the Norma Oryx 154 grain is the best factory load available for the 7x57.
