Police say a North Huron man was airlifted to a London hospital after he was shot by another hunter Tuesday afternoon.

Huron County OPP say the accident occurred northeast of Blyth. Officers and paramedics from Huron County EMS attended a property on St. Michael’s Road at around 4:00 p.m. to assist a man who was shot by a hunter in his hunting party.

The 42-year-old man from North Huron was transported to Wingham and District Hospital by land ambulance and then airlifted to London Health Sciences Centre with serious injuries.

Police continue to investigate.
 
Hard to say much from that description. I will say that I'm very picky about who we add to our little group after someone brought their gun waving brother in law along once. After five minutes with him I made sure I was always on the opposite side of the property from him.
Guy brought his dad's semi auto Remington 30 06 out. We decided to push a couple small bluffs, so he goes back to the truck and produces a brand new Browning semi auto 12 gauge. With a 30 inch barrel. This was his 'bush gun' he explained. And that was just the icing on the cake.
Anyway, I hope the fellow recovers well.
 
Seems like southern Ontario has had it's share of bad luck as far as hunting goes in the past couple years. Last year a local man fell out of his stand and is not paralyzed from the waist down, then this incident happens. My sister who works in London as a window blind store had a customer come in yesterday looking for new window coverings because a bullet went through his window. I understand accidents happen, but some can be prevented.
 
I was shot while shotgun hunting near Blythe Ontario. First year we had compulsory hunter orange, rushed to Goderich Hospital...I still limp.

There was a stray round went thru a retail greenhouse on Hwy 7 outside Kitchener , and the guy killed on 6 Nations as well. For the thousands of us who use our brains and exercise safety there are always a couple who don't, these incidents remind us that complacency has no place.I Hope the injured hunter recovers.
 
Alright I just gotta ask because I don't understand how this keeps happening year after year... what part of the "deer" was he aiming for? The orange part? Or the leafy pattern beside the orange parts? How do humans even look like a deer? I don't get it.

Either way it doesn't seem like the shooter was trying for any kind of ethical shot placement if he didn't even know his target. Sounds just like another idiot shooting at movement, take away his guns and hunting licence and throw him in jail for a few years for attempted manslaughter. Just because he was deer hunting gives him absolutely no right to make the mistake of shooting someone and walking away from it.

I feel terrible for the guy who was shot, hopefully this doesn't affect his life too permanently.
 
Apparently the group was pushing a bush, a deer ran by him and he shot at it but missed and ended up hitting his buddy beyond the deer. I'm guessing he "swept" the bush as he was trying to line up the deer and forgot what was past the end of the barrel.

If this is true, very sad situation! Obviously he shot outside of his zone of fire. Hope the guy that got shot is ok with no lasting ill affects from the injury. A lesson for us all.
 
We participate in a very enjoyable sport that has absolutely no margin for errors. To quote my Dad; make 110% sure before you pull the trigger, as you can't bring the bullet back!
Tree stand injuries are a lot more common I think than is realized. We had a member of our camp fall 15 ft while taking his stand down. He broke his back in several places. That was about 5 yrs ago, he only has very limited use of his parts below the waist, and it will never improve. He hunted with us last year for the first time since the accident. This year he can not come to camp as his condition has worsened. You can never be to careful as your life can change forever in a fraction of a second.

Another hunter was shot on Monday. There's been at least 3 shot this season, maybe more.

MILLBRIDGE – Provincial police and emergency officials rushed into the bush near here at 8:45 a.m. after a report of a hunter being shot.

The hunter was reportedly accidentally shot in the chest - police believe it may have occurred in a misfire from his own weapon. OPP from Central Hastings detachment were scrambling to access the area on ATVs and EMS personnel brought in an ambulance off Highway 62

The man was airlifted from a landing zone near Weslemkoon Lake shortly before 10:30 a.m. and was being flown to Kingston General Hospital. It is reported the man had not lost consciousness while being taken out of the bush, but is in serious condition owing to a wound that is believe to have pierced a lung.

It is reported the incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. near Cleveland Road and South Pine View Ridge Lane.

Monday marks the opening day of deer season in the region north of Madoc

A buddy's old man had the scars in his calves from a partner who tripped in a cornfield. And over the years I've kissed dirt while rabbit hunting? in S.W. Ontario & have ducked while a "buddy" unloaded his shotgun behind the back of my head in my own truck. & I never slept with his Mother, Ole lady or sister for the record! Your hunting partners aren't related, maybe not best friends or your wife. They are people you can have fun with hunting & not get shot!

When a situation like this happens, the shooter always claims that he was shooting at a deer.Yet when the incident is investigated, there is often no proof that a deer was present at the location.
