Planning a trip to Northern Quebec/ Nunavut for Caribou. Anyone have any experience with an outfitter in that region.

Looking at "Arctic Adventures", and "Safaris Nordic". But looking for others as well.

Any feedback(good or bad) or tips would be greatly appreciated.

No experience with outfitters, but a small tip. A friend went up in the late season and had problems with his gun action freezing up.

If you are going during the winter months, I recommend a bolt gun, stripped down to remove all the oil and use a lubricant that can handle very cold temps.

My father was a "chef de groupe" (cook, guide, organizer...) at Twin River Lodge many moons ago. Things have probably changed quite a bit. One piece of advice - plan on staying longer than anticipated. The last year he went, fog socked in the whole area and they stayed an extra 5 days. 12 guys on a carefully weighed supply of food can burn through it pretty quick. And the affluent don't like being told they can't have their way and yes, we will be eating caribou and trout for breakfast, again and no, there is no bread nor butter for your toast.

I hunted with Caribou Adventure in 2005 and 2008. First time we drove to the end of the road at the camp and then flew.It is miles past Mirage. The second time we drove to Montreal and flew out from there. The second trip was more $$ but we didn't have to replace tires and spares as well as a winshield, take gas and food. We shot our limit both times and had a great rip. We did the unquided hunt and took out own pre frozen food. We were treated great and the people at the camps were great help.

I lived in Kuujjuaq for four years and got to know all the guys. If I was going to go back to hunt I'd go with Ungava Adventures. Sammy has everything from top end camps to do it yourself drop camps. If you get into a camp and don't see caribou he will come in and pick you up and put you into caribou. First part of September was always good time to hunt around Kuujjuaq.

Just got back from Northern Quebec last week. We went with Club Chambeaux. They are one of the biggest Outfitters in that area. I believed they also own Safaris Nordic and several others in that region.
We had a good hunt but not quite what we were expected. Bc it was early in the season, the caribou weren't gathered in large number yet. We didn't see any caribou for the first two and half days at the camp we were in. We had to fly several hundred miles to locate the caribou. Over all they did a very good job bringing us to the caribou.
If I was to do it again, I would book the third week of Sept. the migration will be in full swing and you will see more animal. Hopefully the black flies would be all gone by than too. (they were nasty to say the least).
