Hey guys.

Just getting an idea of how much you would think NOS garand parts are worth (especially in Canada)? Eg. Op-rod (uncut), Gas cylinder (narrow base), and stock metal? What about G-Exc barrels? I've noticed marstar with some of these items but not sure of the actual quality make of any of them.

Thanks.

Over the last six months, I have bought a whole rifle, excluding reciever and lumber in NOS parts. Everything is post war GI SA. A NEW still wrapped and cosmo'd barrel was 300, an oprod (post war, all were made with the "cut") I believe was 175. Total bill was about 1500 plus reciever, plus stock. You will not find a NOS uncut oprod, if you do it would be worth a large sum of money. Used uncut oprods go in the 3-400 range in the US. I have one rifle with an uncut rod, and I can't tell you what the fuss is about. By the way, welcome to the addiction. Jeff

Nos

Thanks Jeff.. been getting into bulk parts a bit lately... been getting good deals and can probably get my money back easily from them. I actually have found alot of NOS parts, I even found an uncut SA-6 rod in really good shape (basically new), but I did pay for it good... hehe. I bought a book in regards to the parts/variances, gotta read up on some of it. I own 2 Garands - one which needs a shootable barrel, and the other with a winchester receiver... would like to restore it some day.

I purchased parts from the same guy that J.P. did. Very nice stuff. I've also found a few goodies from Italy including SA marked parts.
There are NOS parts all over the place. Most people know what they have and a small few practically give it away. I got a cosmoline wrapped grenade launcher sight for $4.00 not too long ago. On the other hand i watched an Uncut oprod go for 389 USD on fleabay a few months back. I bought a whole rifle for that much!. Unfortunatly that leads to people stripping down working Garands to profit from. I'd rather restore a crappy rifle to a working unit myself and retain a piece of history.

An Uncut oprod refers to the catch portion of the part. Close to the part# stamp. When an oprod was refurbished or what have you. They would machine out a 3/16 groove in between the charging handle and the catch hook. This is where the the reciever and oprod touch when the rod is in the fully rearward position. They where prone to breakage or cracking from the hard contact during firing. Oprods are repairable with the right measuring tools and skill but this was deemed too expensive to do when Garands were cheap and parts were still being manufactured.
